People are bewildered by introverts. We are like the oddest species they have never seen. We are generally quiet individuals who enjoy some nice, silent downtime. We learn to accept that we are socially awkward people who are better off being alone in our rooms trolling Beyonce’s Instagram then bothering to go meet new people at the mall, there is no need to worry because introverts are smart. We are most creative and intellectual people on the planet. Come on, introverts have J.K Rowling, Bill Gates, Eleanor Roosevelt, and Abraham Lincoln on their side. In fact, let us start with a definition of the word. Introverts are simply individuals who process their lives through internal feelings and thoughts. In easier terms, we are more worried about what is going in our heads than the outside world. It is just like writing a reflective essay. It should only contain the writer’s ideas, not other people’s ideas. Now, the word people like to use quiet. This creates a problem because the word quiet is associated with shyness, and not all introverts are quiet or shy. There are definitely social introverts who just want to talk all day. They can go into a party, and fit in just fine. So why are introverts expected to fail in social situations?

Okay, this is not true. Introverts are not dark, evil people. Our minds are not filled with evil plots to take over the world. It just depends on the individual. Criminals like Ted Bundy and John Wayne Gacy were extroverts, so why do people assume introverts make up the FBI’s Ten Most Wanted Fugitives list? Now in regards in leadership and public speaking, introverts can be very successful in front of large crowds. There can also be great leaders when they are needed. They are numerous executives and celebrity personalities who identify as introverts, and some are at the top of their field. The best example of this is Bill Gates, the co-founder of Microsoft. Gates is an introvert, and one of the richest men in the world. He morphed Microsoft into a billion dollar company. Finally, I can say introverts are special individuals who have a lot to offer. There is nothing wrong with us. We are just like everyone else, and we deserve the same courtesy and acceptance extroverts receive.
