In every clique, each girl has a specific role that they play. Some of the roles can be good; however, some can also be very bad. There is always a girl that gives positive peer pressure, one that gives negative peer pressure, and one that bullies. In Rosalind Wiseman’s story “Queen Bee and Her Court,” she describes the roles these girls play and how they act around their peers. Though not all are bad, the floater, sidekick, and queen bee all play roles in either peer pressure or bullying. Positive peer pressure is when a peer encourages good behavior rather than poor behavior. The floater is an example of a person that would give somebody positive peer pressure. The Queen Bee is the master of manipulation and control. The one person that she gives negative peer pressure the most to is her best friend, the Sidekick. She will pressure the Sidekick to do the dirty work that she does not want to do. When people think of who the bully is, they normally think of the Sidekick because she is always physically doing the bullying. However, while the Queen Bee usually only gives negative peer pressure, she too can bully in a certain way. If the Sidekick says no or does not feel comfortable doing it, the Queen Bee can take away her position and find someone new. However, she pressures not only the Sidekick, but basically everyone that she comes into contact with. Most people feel that the opinion the Queen Bee has on them matters greatly. Therefore, they too will fall into the peer pressure that she brings upon them. One example is of the Banker, otherwise known as the girl that knows everything.
