Being a pediatrician is rewarding and satisfying, because of the salary, gained experience, and having the opportunity to help sick children. A pediatrician’s purpose in society is to diagnose and take care of sick children ages 0-21. Many people think the only thing pediatricians do is diagnose and do checkups with children, but they do much more. Becoming a doctor takes many years of education, overall to become a pediatrician it takes 8+ years of schooling. Future pediatricians need to take four years of medical school, 4 years of residency, and additional specialty training. ("Careers in Medicine: Specialty Information." par. 3). Pre-med students have to take an abundance of courses such as physics, math, biology, and inorganic and organic chemistry ("Pediatrician Job Description." par. 4). Many exams are taken throughout the course of the year to make sure a medical student knows what they're doing. Some of these exams test things like taking lab results, regulating body temperature on a patient, and tending to wounds (Ray, Linda par. 3). To be licensed pediatrician, a medical student has to take and complete an internship/residency. In specialty areas in medicine like neurology, one would usually need additional training. There is a national exam that all pediatricians must pass to be certified. Every seven years a pediatrician must re-certify their schooling (Kesler, Jesse. par.2). These many years of education helps a pediatrician complete the task of helping children who are sick.

The time it takes to become a pediatrician, and the time put into the pediatrician career could make it tough to find time for family, and family is very important in many peoples lives. Becoming too attached to a child that the pediatrician takes care of is also a disadvantage, as it can affect the pediatrician emotionally. Although being a pediatrician has some disadvantages, the advantages of this career outweigh the disadvantages.
As you can see being a pediatrician is rewarding and satisfying, because of the salary, gained experience, and having the opportunity to help sick children. Anyone who wants a career in medicine, and who also likes to work with children should pursue this career. Many in this career are very successful and exceptional in their job field.
