What of religion and what of faith and practice becomes a part of the process of peacemaking?

Answering this question will require me to outline the process of peacemaking and explain how religion and faith are an essential parts of this process. In “ The spirit and art of conflict transformation”, the writer, Thomas Porter, explains the peacemaking process in five main points; (1) letting go striving for status or control, once I read this element, I found a similar thought in Islam, my religion, which encourage Muslims to act in a respectful way in any conversation even if the listener was in power. (2) Developing relationship of respect and trust with each party. As peacemaking is involve dealing with people, peacemaker should build relationships based on respect and trust. In fact, in order to gain someone’s trust, respect must be shown first. This element is related to one’s faith; in Islam relationship should be based on respect and trust. A faithful Muslim will acknowledge that we asked to respect each other from reading the holy Quran. For example, “And by the Mercy of Allah, you dealt with them gently. And had you been severe and harsh-hearted, they would have broken away from about you; so pass over (their faults), and ask (Allah's) Forgiveness for them; and consult them in the affairs. Then when you have taken a decision, put your trust in Allah, certainly, Allah loves those who put their trust (in Him).” Aya 159, Surah Ale-Imran. In this Aya, Allah is telling prophet Muhammad to deal with Muslims and non-Muslims in a respectful way and gently and the reason of that is explained also in the Aya which is dealing with people in disrespectful way will break the relationship between them.
