Recommended: Violent and nonviolent approaches compare and contrast

In a free society, we are given the ability to make choices that we feel are best for the overall good. Once we are made aware of the most current scenario or issue, we make judgment calls on the best way to handle it. This can be organized to the extent of calling communities to meet together and form a demonstration, or it can be simply demanding answers from our elected officials as to how the situation came into play. Many times we base these choices upon our own personal experience because we would like to see a different outcome in the scenario we find ourselves in. Events in history, if not carefully examined, have a way of repeating themselves. Most people are able to identify the signs of change and step out to let their voice be heard …show more content…

Ironically, it was stated that President Trump united many Americans in these protests as the nation is very much divided on the thoughts pertaining to these issues. Peaceful resistance towards laws and decisions made by the government can be a good thing. These demonstrations helped to exemplify why the United States is called the land of the free; anyone can speak their mind without fear of government punishment or penalty. However, taking caution is never out of the question in matters such as these because there are many radicals who have simple desires to ignite chaos and violence, prompting …show more content…

The protest is meant to symbolize a peaceful resistance to a decision made by the government in authority over the land. If the protesters choose to become violent and harmful, then it is no longer a peaceful resistance, but a riot. Through this comes senseless violence that will accomplish nothing but an influence of hatred that will spread throughout the society and prompt more to join in the conflict. The act of peaceful resistance is the best route to take, but should still be taken with caution because there are many possibilities that people could still be harmed. However, this can positively impact a society because it shows that citizens are willing to be patient with their government as they await their answer after so many demonstrations have been complete. This can also fuel a better relationship between citizens and their government, bringing about a future where hopefully, less and less protests will be

Psychologically and psychiatrically it is very clear that no man—no matter how well-intentioned—can keep group passions in control.” While disagreeing with the first example from Liebman, it would be difficult to disregard the way that many protests seem to spiral out of control. Peaceful protest for the most part remain peaceful, however some may turn violent very quickly. Liebman also believes that there is no such thing as “righteous civil disobedience” as men and women are deliberately disregarding laws set in place to protect the country, and regards it as deplorable and destructive(Liebman). To combat Liebman, a new age of civil disobedience is rolling in, a more inclusive type.
