Essay 1a Pay it Forward

Perspective is developed over time, and with time it changes. As people age, their view of themselves and the world around them alters. People’s outlook evolves through experience; from things they see, hear and read. Pay it Forward is a film that has influenced the way I look at all things, myself included.
Pay it Forward is the story of a 7th grade boy named Treavor McKinney who is given an assignment to “Think of an idea to change our world and put it into action”. He soon comes up with an idea to do one big favor for three people, something that those people could not do themselves. As Treavor’s single act of kindness rippled through the country, it showed how connected each of us are, and how easily we can impact one another’s lives. Every action, positive or negative, big or small, is carried through a web of people. That web of people can add up, especially on a planet with 7 billion people. Throughout the film, characters were introduced, along with their issues. They dealt with problems ranging from abuse, depression, sickness, and even the struggle to survive. The film highlighted the reality that everyone has their own trouble and misfortune. Life is hard, not just for one person, but for every single one. How we get through these challenges and difficulties, makes us who we are. Even so, the truth is that everyone needs help at some time or another. In the film, Sidney Parker, a gang member, is in the hospital due to a stab wound. He ends up saving a girl’s life by making the nurse who was attending to him, go help her. It made me believe that everyone has good in them. Most people just need a nudge. An eleven year old boy coming up with such a selfless idea as pay it forward proves my point. Either way Pay it Forward must take some credit for the way I view this huge, needy, connected and truly good
