One of the best choices the town of Pawnee has available is Malathion. 1 “Malathion is an insecticide in the chemical family known as organophosphates” Malathion is mainly used to control a wide variety of insects from gardens and homes. Not only is Malathion used for a pesticide, it can be found in many special shampoos to treat lice. The EPA has determined that there is not enough physical evidence to determine whether or not Malathion is deadly to humans. 5 The third step of the risk assessment is exposure assessment. 7 Exposure assessment is “the process of measuring or estimating the magnitude, frequency, and duration of human exposure to an agent in the environment, or estimating future exposures for an agent that has not yet been released” The expected amount of people to be affected in the town of Pawnee is very small.
