The Tell Tale Heart and The Black Cat is about men who are in a paranoid state that show remorse for the murders that they commit. Paranoia is a thought process believed to be heavily influenced by anxiety or fear, often to the point of irrationality and delusion. When I think about someone in a paranoid state I think that they can be helped it may take time to cure the paranoia but it would be worth it. The men that Edgar Allan Poe created in these short stories are far too lost that they can’t be helped. The murders that occurred in these two stories were sick and sadistic that it seemed like they didn’t show any remorse but it started eating them inside for what they have done. The Tell Tale Heart and The Black Cat both end in Poe’s trademark
After he killed the old man he dismembered the old man by cutting off his head and then the arms and then the legs. Then the narrator took up three planks from the flooring of his chamber and deposited the body parts between the scantlings so that no eye not even his could see it. The narrator felt like he was going to get away with the crime that he committed but he was dead wrong. The narrator started to hear a knocking at the door and he went to answer and it was three policemen who said that the neighbor heard a shriek and suspected that their might have been foul play. What was smart about the madman was that he acted all calmly and peaceful to the policeman even though he had to because he committed the crime and he didn’t want the police to suspect anything but this shows that he had a few screws loose in his head. The narrator shows the police around the house, he even brings the police to the scene of the crime upstairs in the old mans bedroom this showed that he was very comfortable and not worried. He even had the audacity to grab chairs for the policemen for them to sit on in the old mans bedroom. He even pulled up a chair and sat at the very spot where the corpse was. This wasn’t a very safe move for the narrator if I was him I would just have the police search around the house like they already did and if they didn’t suspect something I would try to make them leave in a nice way so that they don’t
