Paramedics use special equipment such as backboards, to immobilize patients before placing them on stretchers and securing them in the ambulance for transport to a medical facility ( Paragraph 3, Overview EMT Paramedic 2). For instance in order to be able to do this. Paramedics must have a lot of skills and strength to be able to lift the backboards with the patient on it without hurting the patient. Especially when transporting the patient from the backboard onto the stretcher.
