History
Ground broke for a new ginormous,lavish palace in 1232.Now one of Spain’s most visited architectural site the Alahambra Palace is the most significant Islamic architecture in Spain. It has Christian building and gardens. This palace is a world heritage center! I have personally have never seen or heard of anything like this before. Its art is the final stage of Muslim art. Its history is quite extensive. Mohammed V survived his father and instead of finishing what his father had started he went above and beyond making renovations. This is a world heritage site, so there is not just one god of the people. There are a few rulers or sultans as the like to be referred to who took this over, Mohammed I (1238-1273), Mohammed II (1273-1302). Mohammed III (1302-1309),Yusuf I (1333-1354) and Mohammed V (1354-1359). While it was still in the creation/ construction phase of this piece of architecture. Yusuf was assassinated, Mohammed v became the sultan. Mohammed V is responsible for most the lavish add on to the exquisite archeological site. Charles V who was a Christian and conquered part of Islamic Spain was responsible for demolishing part of the Palace of the Lions to add on his version of his own palace. Which he did end up doing. This archaeological site has been through a lot of eventful stuff due to its religious nature. With all of the religious conflict that has been around for thousands of year between Muslims, and Christians and Jews there is no telling how much refuge this place as seen as well as destruction, and triumph. Alhambra was make of red stucco. The carvings on the building as well as the fountain and courtyard of the place were made of stone. There is more known on the carvings. The first part of the Nasrid Art ear used iron tools to carving. The most I can gather on a technique is that the archeological site was strategically placed. Which is part of the reason it served a military defense, a city within itself as well as political natures. This building is truly incredible for its time. It is the largest palace still known to man! Can you believe that? It almost reminds me of the Circus Maximus in Rome,
