Psychological Relationship between the Sensory Affective Dimensions of Pain
Pain can be described in a number of different ways, but is determined by the perception of pain that they are experiencing. “Pain is something that comes from our experiences and develops due to stimulation and human interaction. It involves concepts such as location, feelings of unpleasantness and having the sensation of pain. Pain becomes possible because of a psychological development that begins at birth” (Challies). The sensory pain is the quality of the pain experienced in a particular location and is often described as a sensational form of hurt. The affective pain is described as an emotional experience in which pain is perceived by the individual. “The perception of pain results from the brain’s processing of new sensory input with existing memories and emotions, in the same way that other perceptions are produced. Childhood experiences, cultural attitudes, heredity, and gender are factors that contribute to the development of each individual’s perception of and response to different types of pain. Although some people may be able physiologically to withstand pain better than others, cultural factors rather than heredity usually account for that ability” (Meldrum).
There are three major components of pain: Nociceptive pain, inflammatory pain, and Neuropathic pain; Nociceptive pain is caused by the damaging of nociceptors in which affects the nerves and causes an unpleasant sensation. This type of pain can be brought upon by being burned, twisting a wrist, or simply having a migraine. There are two forms of nociceptive pain called somatic and visceral pain; somatic pain is associated with the bones and or joints while visceral pain is triggered...

Pain, loss, a sense of safety and fear were probably the most challenging emotional, and psychological feelings for them to carry. Pain: one of the most crippling emotions that the human can experience. Pain is caused in many ways. There is emotional and physical pain. The soldiers of the Vietnam War felt both of these types of pain during their one year trip in Vietnam and had to carry this emotion with them.
Pain is something that several Americans suffer from on a daily basis for varying reasons.
The most common and well described pain transmission is “gate control theory of pain”. This theory was first proposed by Melzack and Wall in 1965 whereby they used the analogy of gate to explain the inhibition of pain which exists within the dorsal horn of the spinal cord. For instance, when tissue damage occurs, substances such as prostaglandin, serotonin, histamine and bradykinin are released from the injured cell. Individual usually consume or apply pain medications such as NSAIDs whereby these medications will cause electrical nerve impulse at the end of the sensory nerve fiber via nociceptor. Nociceptor is a pain receptor that is commonly found in the skin, cornea of eye and organ of motion such as muscles and ligaments. These nerve impulses

“The greatest evil is physical pain.” Saint Augustine understood that experiencing pain is horrific, and most would agree. However, it is perhaps emotional pain, rather than physical, that causes the most damage. Whether physical or emotional, painful experiences are upsetting at best, and in severe cases, they can be life-changing. Pain is a feeling of distress that is often an underlying problem or symptom of an illness.
Conclusions. An adequate and clear understanding of the concept of pain and implementing interventions of pain treatment and management is essential in the clinical settings. Understanding the concept of pain is necessary for its relationships with other concepts that are related and similar to the pain experience for theory building. The in the end, understanding the concept of pain will ultimately benefit the patient and lead to better and approp...

In a pain assessment, the pain is always subjective, in a verbal patient; pain is what the patient says that it is. Nurses must be able to recognize non verbal signs of pain such as elevated pulse, elevated blood pressure, grimacing, rocking, guarding, all of which are signs of pain (Jensen, 2011). A patient’s ethnicity may have a major influence on their meaning of pain and how it is evaluated and responded to behaviorally as well as emotionally (Campbell, & Edwards 2012). A patient may not feel that their pain is acceptable and they do not want to show that they are in pain. For some people, showing pain indicates that they are weak. Other patients will hide their pain as they do not want to be seen as a bother or be seen as a difficult patient.
Physical pain is a term that is being used to describe when your body physically hurts. For example- when you stub your toe, hit your elbow, or scrape your knee. After these things, our body could experience throbbing, aching, or burning sensations. Physical pain consists of acute pain- which is our body’s normal reaction to pain. For instance- when you put your hand on a hot stove- your body quickly reacts as you push your hand away. You will feel burning and throbbing for

The physical aspects of pain can vary greatly from a sharp prick with a shot to the excruciating pain of childbirth.Emotional pain has to be the most horrid, in my opinion, of all types of pain. It feels as if your insides are being wrenched out. When my girlfriend and I broke up, I felt as if she had ripped my heart out and I was standing there watching while she stomped on it.
