Pablo Picasso Behind the Art
Pablo Picasso, a man with no inspirational limits, which has been portrayed throughout his art pieces. He was not only an amazing influential artist, Picasso was also a peace advocate. He brought new techniques and styles to the world of modern art. Political views and his desire for peace were shown throughout many of his now very famous pieces of artwork. Pablo Picasso influenced the world by changing the ways of art, and showing us that paintings can have a deeper meaning which can impact the lives of many.

In 1907, Picasso created a new type of art, Cubism. For those who don’t know what cubism is, it captured and exaggerated certain features of a subject. “Cubism is renowned as a groundbreaking artistic movement in and of its own right, yet it also influenced generations of artists to follow, shaping the very history of art.” (Unknown 6) This technique changed art all around the world. It helped people express more depths within a painting. One of his most famous paintings was “Guernica”. This giant mural represented the bombings that nearly wiped out a town during the Spanish Civil War. It was recognized as the most influential anti-war piece of artwork of the modern art world. The famous words of Picasso once stated, “I stand for life against death, I stand for peace against war.” (Artfonica 3) After his ‘Guernica’ mural was seen by others as a symbol against fascism, totalitarianism, and armed conflict, he created the ‘Dove of Peace’. Picasso’s Dove of Peace was created for the first international peace conference in Paris. This piece was used all around the world to represent the freedoms people should and still have. Many people couldn’t understand how an artist can change communities and even government’s beliefs by just putting some paint on a canvas. Picasso felt very strongly about politics, “What do you think an artist is? He is a political being, constantly aware of the heartbreaking, passionate, or delightful things in the world, shaping himself completely in their image.” (Champion 7) The ‘Dove of Peace’ was used to promote peace treaties not only in Spain and Paris but around the world.
