Pablo Escobar, Columbian cocaine godfather of Medillin, was born on December 1, 1949, in Antioquia, Columbia (“Pablo Escobar Biography,” n.d.). Escobar grew up with his mother, a school teacher, and father who was a peasant farmer (“Pablo Escobar Biography,” n.d.). In the beginning, Escobar’s criminal behavior started when he was in his teens (“Pablo Escobar Biography,” n.d.). Moreover, as Pablo Escobar settled into the criminal lifestyle, Escobar advanced in the criminal activity (Levinthal, 2012). Pablo Escobar was influenced by other drug lords and learned the drug trade (“Pablo Escobar Biography,” n.d.). According to Levinthal (2012), Pablo Escobar was known as being one of the most powerful violent criminal bosses of all times.

Escobar began the drug trafficking business with small quantities on commercial flights or old plane tires (“Pablo Escobar Biography,” n.d.). Furthermore, under the influence of George Jung and other drug lords, Pablo began trafficking large, riskier quantities by private planes (“Pablo Escobar Biography,” n.d.). The drug trafficking business was rapidly making Escobar into a rich man (“Pablo Escobar Biography,” n.d.).
In the text, Pablo Escobar did not want anyone to get in the way, and he would say “Plata o plomo” meaning “money or lead” (“Pablo Escobar Biography, n.d.). Pablo Escobar said if anyone intervened lives were lost (Levinthal, 2012). Evidence confirms, Escobar and the cartel lashed out on hundreds of thousands of Columbians to prove dominance (“Pablo Escobar Biography,” n.d.). Furthermore, due to the drugs and war epidemic, the Columbian government, presented a compromise (Levinthal, 2012).
