The definition of the word confidence means to have the belief in oneself and one's own powers and abilities. Many of us might have an idea of what we believe confidence may be about. However when the time calls for us to be confident in ourselves, are we? Can an individual be confident in themselves in every decision that is made?

When it comes to confidence should gender matter? The answer is no gender should not matter when it comes to confidence. Despite how the person looks on the outside or how they carry themselves what truly matters is the confidence they have on the inside. We all have our own type of confidence deep inside ourselves. To limit and break down the word confidence and state there is a gap in confidence between men and women is nothing more but a distorted claim that is described in the article " The Confidence Gap" by Katty Kay and Claire Shipman posted by The Atlantic. The article claims there is a confidence gap within the work environment where women weren't working hard enough to climb the career ladder and blames women for allowing that type of situation to occur. How can women be accused and blamed for not possessing enough confidence to climb the work ladder? Why are such accusations being aimed only at women? Can they be true?

"When women hesitate because we aren’t sure, we hold ourselves back." (Kay and Shipman, The Confidence Gap). However women are more than capable and confident enough to complete a task all the way through till the end. Kay and Shipman go on to discuss the consequences of women showing and not showing confidence in the workplace. It is ...

...odern day society when it comes to viewing women. Penelope's confidence has proven to be that of an empathetic queen who possesses a strong heart and a strong will. For her being strong enough to speak her mind and strong willed for never letting her heart be swayed by another man that alone shows what type of confidence a woman can acquire.

If there is a gap in confidence it is in the lack of confidence for both men and women. Women are always thought of being the more emotional and sensitive one between the genders thus giving the belief that women may be more insecure and have more of a lack of confidence than men. Then again who ever said men aren't insecure or emotional themselves? Who made the rule that one sex is even lacking confidence?. Just because women may not always show their confidence in the workplace that doesn't mean there's a gap in confidence.
