Modern Technology has evolved, and impacted our society in a negative way. There are multiple reasons as to why it affects our community, such as lower grades, job stability, cyberbullying, sexting, and it can harm college admission. I have known a family friend that has experienced social networking in a horrible way, which has messed with his dreams and life goals. Social networking has a negative influence on our lives, causing many various problems in our community.
Social networks are internet sites that help people interact with each other, and help deliver information such as pictures and videos. Social networking started in 1971, which was when the very first email was delivered. But it was the stages of the 1970s that opened the way for people to communicate socially. Their website back then was called Bulletin Board System “BBS” it was like the Facebook of our time. Just like in 1970s, the 80s developed social networking sites but it was the site GEnie that brought people together which let people discuss and play video games but they were not as graphic as they are now. When the 90s came around more and more ways of social networking developed which dominated that generation, websites such as Craigslist, AOL, Geocities, but it was ICQ that took center stage in the late 90s. Then there is the generation that we live in today which came out with tons of ways of communicating. This makes kids forget how to socialize with one another and not know how to carry on a conversation. Along with socialization becoming obsolete, technology causes addiction, and the replacement of jobs throughout America. The reasons why technology is impacting society in a negative way is how people are forgetting how to socialize and becoming antisocial, automatics are taking the place of jobs for humans, and the internet is making millions addicted along with more mental health problems.
Social media has affected people negatively because people depend on social media more than their brain .Which does not bring any benefit to them .Our society has come from being very social to antisocial over the years. Technology Is What You Make It The articles “How Computers Change the Way We Think” by Sherry Turkle and “Electronic Intimacy” by Christine Rosen argue that technology is quite damaging to society as a whole and that even though it can at times be helpful it is more damaging. I have to agree and disagree with this because it really just depends on how it is used and it can damage or help the user. The progressing changes in technology, like social media, can both push us, as a society, further and closer to and from each other and personal connections because it has become a tool that can be manipulated to help or hurt our relationships and us as human beings who are capable of more with and without technology. Technology makes things more efficient and instantaneous.
Technology in itself is not damaging to us. In fact, many forms of technology help us in our everyday lives. Even so, practically every problem that stems from technology can also be related to overuse of electronics. For example, looking around at a restaurant, a person might find almost every young or old patron on their cell phone.This takes away from dinner conversation and can be frustrating to try to talk to someone who is playing on their cell phone. Being on your phone all the time can also cause romantic relationships to fall apart in certain cases. Another way it is harmful to social interactions is through social networking sites. While social networking has the ability to reconnect old friends, see what family and friends are up to, and stay informed, it also has a dark side. Problems with romantic or even platonic relationships can arise from something as small as who your friends are on Facebook or whom you follow on Twitter. A more likely situation is that romantic relationships could face turmoil if one person finds out that the other has been talking to someone else privately. Under certain circumstances, one partner could think that the other is cheating on them.
Social media has impacted everyone that has used it some point in his or her life. Since the world is increasing in technology advances, so is social media which can be good and bad. Technology has made a huge difference in the world and definitely how people are doing things now. Yes, the Internet can be good for the majority of things we use it for such as finding research, keeping in touch with family or friends who are far away, and saving time and money. Others like to take advantage of social media and use it in a way that can hurt people; it may not hurt them physically, but it can hurt them emotionally. Examples of how some people use the Internet in a bad way include cyberbullying, identity theft, or cyberstalking. Social media has impacted the Millennial generation for sure.
It might lead to less social interaction and negatively affect students academic if people waste too much time and use it without any controls. Technology is developing every day with smart phone, smart TV, etc. Therefore, when we use these smart technology, we need to be a smart user also in order not to depend on those things to fulfill our demand. Social networking will be a great tool for this modern society if we use it wisely and essentially. For our generation today and especially for children, parents should spend more time for their kids to have a face-to-face communication and listen to what they want to share instead of let them interact with electronic devices too
Social media has nothing but negative effects on people’s minds. Social networking can become very addicting and people can get wrapped up in the drama and excitement of the cyber world. It would only improve our society today if social media never existed to our knowledge. Our society today feels so connected with social media that it interferes with our lives making every task even harder with the temptations.
While with the constant use of these social technologies, less people are communicating in person, this type of technology might be doing more harm than good because with the rise of websites such as Facebook, social networking may be on the verge of replacing traditional personal interactions for the next generation.
