2.0 Overview of Personal Digital Assistant (PDA) According to (O. Dussell et al., 1999), Personal Digital Assistant (PDA) is a portable computer system that let user store contact number and address in a database. User able assigns task or information on digital calendar with Personal Digital Assistant too. With evolution on Personal Digital Assistant, wireless communication link is developed which allow it act as a portable facsimile device. Same with current smartphone, a Personal Digital Assistant also provide Global Positioning System (GPS). 2.1 Type of Personal Digital Assistant (PDA) in Market With the research in (Ebay, 2016), there is still several type of Personal Digital Assistant (PDA) is available in market. The personal digital assistant (PDA) is a handheld device originally designed as personal organizers but over the years have advanced becoming the newest tool in the academic toolbox. It had broad capabilities is a powerful reference source as well as a computer and communicator that can be stored in a pocket.
Handheld displays are computing devices with a display that the user can hold in their hands. Video-see-through techniques overlay graphics onto the real environment and employ sensors, such as GPS units, Microelectromechanical systems (MEMS), and accelerometers for their six degrees of freedom tracking. Currently smart-phones and Tablet PCs are the most popular types of handheld device. Smart-phones and tablets are very portable and have many capabilities. They are becoming increasingly more powerful with advances in their hardware and software capabilities. This makes them a very
Tablets are effective tools used to improve user’s productivity and online experience, whether they are used for business or life in general. Tablets are smaller than a laptop and larger than a Smartphone, so they are perfect to take on the go. Users can browse the internet, create presentations, stay connected with their boss, download games, watch movies, share photos and much more with their tablets. Just recently tablets have become very popular. Therefore, there are over 47.5 million tablets sold in the United States today. Two of the most popular tablets on the market are the Apple iPad and the Amazon Kindle Fire. Evaluating their battery life and capacity, screen size, and price, a user will soon figure out which table is best for them. Though each of them had good qualities, I preferred the iPad more than the Kindle.
Based on an analysis of the case, Hewlett-Packard should restart manufacturing the tablet and maintain the reduced price. This is primarily because anecdotal comments from TouchPad users indicate that many users are highly satisfied with the tablet (Gilster, 2011). However, the new manufacturing initiatives should focus on enhancing the performance of the product by enhancing features that hindered its smooth operation.
...o (Matthew Broersma, 2001). For example: – buyers are want a PDA with fast processor (with the maximum 624MHz speed) because slow processors in a number of PDAs (see table 1.1.2 in appendix) are interrupting the operation, reducing the speed of function, and also disabling the users from carrying out the multimedia activities (see table 1.1.3) smoothly plus speedily (Bleeping Computer, 2004). In addition, buyers are want a PDA with minimum 6 hours of battery life (such as in Casio E-115) because short life batteries are running out quickly in a number of PDAs (see table 1.1.3) whenever the users using the multimedia features (for example: – Bluetooth, WI-FI, digital camera, Window Media Player and so on) for the outdoor activities (Adrian Wong, 2008). Furthermore, nowadays buyers are not only wanting a PDA with basic features but also with advanced features such as:
Determining the target market for the product is integral to the success of the marketing efforts. The question must be asked, “Which are Sonic’s target markets?” The Sonic 1000 PDA is being marketed to the 25-40 years age range. These are working professionals who use these products every day. The Sonic 1000 is designed to make the lives of the users easier. These professionals have busy, fast paced lives. Any device that can help in making the day go easier is a welcome addition. Kotler and Keller say that the target market should be that which “provides the greatest opportunity” (Kotler & Keller, 2009). This definition describes the Sonic 1000’s target market well. The idea behind choosing this market is to take the new product and drop it into the portion of the market that is most interested in this type of device. The PDA market has exploded in recent years and there are no signs of the market cooling off. Consumers look for better, newer products. The goal of Sonic should be to introduce the best product into the market and focus on influencing the 25-40 years age group. A second target market will be the aging “baby boomers”. According to Kotler and Keller, this age group is trying to fight the aging process by staying current and up to date with technology (Kotler & Keller, 2009). These consumers usually have plenty of usable finances and most do not mind spending it. The Sonic 1000 PDA is typically designed to work for any age group and the aging “baby boomers” are no exception.
The computation performed on mobile devices is referred to as Mobile Computing [1]. Mobile computing involves mobile communication [2], mobile hardware, and mobile software. Communication is among various adhoc mobile devices in a network which includes certain properties, operations and protocols. Mobile hardware is collection of various mobile devices with in a network. Mobile software includes characteristics and requirements of mobile applications.
My report is on the company Hewlett – Packard (HP) which was founded in 1939. I mainly focused on the Personal Systems Group (PSG): business and consumers PCs mobile computing devices and workstations which is one of the major industries of HP. In order to succeed in the business industry a company needs to understand its customer’s needs and create wants for them. HP found out that the customer needed light weight, useful notebook PCs through its Research & Development (R&D) centre. Hence, it created a want; a New Commercial Notebook PC Compaq Evo Notebook N1015v which packs the power and performance necessary for mobility into a stylish design for only $899(US $). HP also finds out about its customer needs through online feedback forms and survey. Via that, HP was also able to understand that not everyone are able to use their products hence it has created this HP accessibility products which can be accessed by anyone including people with disabilities and age – limitations. Example of such product under the PSG industry is the Mobile Speak Pocket which was specially made for the visually impaired people. ( Refer To Exhibit 1a – 1c )
Because of the experience they got in this area for years and the investment they did into this sector, Compaq/HP is the ultimate market leader with approximately 75% market share. The remaining 25% are split under PALM, SHARP, SAMSUNG and SONY. Dell, the American Computer Manufacturer, also did enter this market with their new PDA model, the Axim X3 hoping to get a piece of this huge cake.

From the article, just focusing on, for example, smartphone users in America, it is obvious that two in third population have their own mobile devices. Moreover, according to one survey by Anshul Srivastava in the article, “2 Billion Smartphone Users By 2015: 83% of Internet Usage From Mobiles”, over four billion people were reported as a smartphone user, that is more than world’s half of the population. Surprisingly by 2017, the smartphone users will increase to over five billion, which suggests that more than one in two people owns a device globally. It shows the popularization of owing the modern technology all over the world. In addition to the point, not surprisingly, almost all of those devices are equipped with AI technology. The most famous example of AI technology added in mobile devices is Siri the voice recognition of iPhone enhanced by AI technology, which can response the device-owners’ question. The article, "Almost 40% of U.S. smartphone owners use
This approach is ideal for this project because the operating system involved in mobile application is flexible to be built with minimal purchase of hardware and tools required to complete. Apart from that, the time constraint happens not to be an issue of relevance because the time given is enough to iterate the phases whenever it is necessary. Notwithstanding, the research can be focused on constantly improving the system to ensure meeting the objectives of the project.

Smartphone’s, PADs, tablet computers and other handheld devices that are used to run over operating system are called mobile operating system (Mobile OS). A specified data and programs that run over the mobile devices are referred as mobile operating system. It handles all the hardware and optimizes the performance of the application software in the device. Mobile multimedia functions, Internet connectivity and many other applications are handled by mobile operating system. Base infrastructure software inherent of a computerized system is operating system. It controls all primitive operations of the computer such as PDA and Smartphone. To install and execute the third party applications (known as apps) by users are allowed in the operating system devices. It enumerates new functionalities of the devices.
