I’m extremely hungry and thirsty. I desperately need food and water. I’m searching, I’m trying to find something to quench my thirst and sate my hunger. I can’t see water or food anywhere. Who do I ask for help? Where do I go? There’s no more left. My throat is so dry, it hurts. CAN SOMEONE PLEASE GIVE ME WATER? The Earth’s resources are ending right before our eyes and we aren’t doing anything about it. We all know they aren’t going to last forever. Our demands are more than our supplies. The main reason behind this problem occurring is overpopulation. Overpopulation might not sound as hideous as it actually is. The more talented people, the more advanced we are. I mean, the more, the merrier! However, there are so many disadvantages of overpopulation. For example, it results in environmental problems such as overfishing, amount of landfills and deforestation as well as issues for humans such as starvation and reduction of freshwater. There are so many people in the world; so many that we may reach a point when Earth will not be able to sustain us. “The generation that causes the damage is not the generation that will face the consequences.” This quote was said by an aboriginal woman who believed that our damage’s consequences will be suffered by other generations. As I mentioned previously, overpopulation has many negative effects on the environment. One of the negative effects it can cause is overfishing. Overfishing is when people fish in a certain area too frequent. As our population grows, so does our need for fish as a food source. We must control overfishing because these water creatures are not reproducing at the rate that we are hunting them. Many areas around the world don’t have fish because of our increasing deman... ... middle of paper ... ...ving on, let’s take a look at population statistics to further comprehend our future. There are currently about seven billion people in the world. In the year 2050, there will be about nine billion people in the world! The top three countries with the highest populations are China, India and USA. Although China is the most populated and country and USA is the third most populated country, USA uses the most water. In one day, one person in USA uses 152 gallons of water! As well, USA uses the most oil. USA uses an estimated amount of nineteen million barrels of oil! I hope you understand the statistics of our future. To summarise, overpopulation is very detrimental for the environment. So far a solution hasn’t been discovered so we should try to come up with a solution before the time we fear arrives… I think the best solution would be the 75th annual hunger games!
