Fearing the unknown What stands between everyday people and overcoming fear? When fear is discussed in this text is means everyday fears that limit us from accomplishing goals (long and short term) and/or dreams in life. As humans we are holding back our full potential with the chance of failure. Usually humans do not have all pieces, or have them in the right order. Let us face it not one person can know everything there is to know, but the ones that came before have left their knowledge about what to fear and what not to fear in life. They wanted to educate us so we don’t make the same mistakes as they have “I learned that courage is not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear.” (Nelson Mandela). They are pushing us to strive over our everyday fears and live life to the fullest. “I have learned that fear limits you and your vision. It serves as blinders to what maybe just a few steps down the road from you. The journey is valuable, but believing in your talents, your abilities, and your self-worth can empower you to walk down an even brighter path. Transforming fear into freedom - how great is that?” (Soledad O’Brien). O-Brien talks about the journey that every human experiences and that all one may need is to believe in themselves in the face of fear and conquer it. Believing in one-self is the most encouragement anyone can have. To be able to push fear to the side and find courage, confidence, strength, and endurance is the most effort one can put into accomplishing his/her goals. Humans need to look at fear as an educator to them and future generations. “If you know the enemy and know yourself you need not fear the results of a hundred battles.” (Sun Tzu) Fear and everything that scares you is your enemy one must go face it no matter the out come. Even if the battle is lost you can learn from it become more intelligent and more prepared for the next

Fear influences people to make irrational decisions and take extreme measures. Often times, these actions are done to protect one’s reputation. Fear causes people to lie and manipulate to those they care about in order to escape what they are scared of most. Fear of failure has caused higher levels of anxiety, and has made society put blame on each other, rather than owning up to their mistakes. Fear can also cause one to forget one’s true identity and lose one’s values. There are two options that one can take when being faced with a fear: run away from the fear, or go through it and learn a valuable lesson in the end that will make you a stronger person. Fear is a harmful emotion that everyone has to go through in order to succeed.
Fear prevents us from embracing the present moment. While fear does serve as a protective force, as individuals would not consider consequences without it, it also damages an individual 's ability to live mindfully. Fear prevents risk; it prevents individuals from taking risks that could move them from despair to fulfillment. We stand dissatisfied with the present, yet afraid of the unknown. The Mindless Monster that we possess provokes fear; negative thoughts such as “You are not good enough,” “You will fail,” and “You are not worthy,” flood our mind, causing an altered mindset. The problem with our Mindless Monster rests on the notion that it only provides negativity consequences, disregarding possible rewards. This fear halts our progress, trapping us in a mindless
What is the hardest thing about facing a fear? It could be the uncertainty of what happens next, what others may think, or maybe that a bad memory of the past could occur again. Fear. A simple four-lettered word that describes a powerful emotion that takes over and changes us in an instant. When I was younger, I remember that the consequences of being disciplined frightened me so much that I would do anything in my power to stay out of trouble; as I heard my parents yell out my name while I was conscious that did something wrong, I would lie about the events so my parents would be as merciful as possible. Certainly, this situation has occurred to numerous children across the world. Furthermore, the fear inflicted over me as a child led me to abandon my moral judgement in order to escape harsh punishment. However, what happens when human beings use this fear is used as a way to control others? Throughout history, “fear

In the words of Bertrand Russell, “Fear is the main source of superstition, and one of the main sources of cruelty. To conquer fear is the beginning of wisdom” (Russell). Fear causes many problems in our lives. Fear influences many of a person’s actions and decisions. However, people usually regret the decisions or actions they made out of fear. Also, these actions and decisions can cause problems for those people in their future. Fear is a harmful emotion, for it clouds people’s judgement, disables them from taking action, and causes them to make decisions that they will regret later.
Fear motivates many people to act upon matters, right or wrong. This emotion has been important in many events in both works of literature, and in the real world. It has forced military geniuses into retreat, and influenced them to plan another method of attack. Fear can be both a positive and a negative acting force in one’s life, a quality that can motivate one to success as well as to downfall.
Fear is something very foreign to countless people, not the idea, but the response to it, the way people react to fear. Everyone has their own fears; their own definitions and triggers to these unique varieties of fear. We imagine our worst fears and what would happen if they became a reality. This is where imagination plays a key role in the response to fear. Imagination can overcome one’s ability to reason out an abnormal situation, in which fear kicks in; frequently resulting in the situation becoming worse than the previous extent. Fear is in everyone’s lives, although it doesn’t affect some as much as others due to their response to this fear. Meaning they don’t let their imagination overcome their reason, creating a mindless fear as exhibited throughout our lifetime.
Webster defines fear as “an unpleasant often strong emotion caused by expectation or awareness of danger”. Fear is unavoidable, and it is an inclination that everyone possesses; from a small child to an elderly man and every human in between. There are myriad fears that may develop during a lifetime, but all fears are an innate response to perceived danger. When a danger is perceived the human body responds to protect itself., and the consequences of the body’s response are what make people hate being scared. Fear can transform into a controlling factor in people’s lives as they experience their fear continually making them feel overwhelmed and anxious, so they begin to avoid it altogether and start to miss out on life.
