When faced with an obstacle, it is easy to give up and move on. However, being resilient in the face of adversity can help a person persist when confronting an obstacle in the future. A time where one would need to persevere would be through difficult transitions, such as a move to a new school or state. I had to stay determined and persist when I moved to a different state twice. The first time I moved was when I was nine years old. My family left our home in northern California and moved to Minnesota. The change was drastic. The weather was much colder, I had to take the school bus for the first time, our house was significantly different, what I learned in school was more difficult, and I started school at a time when everyone knew each
Perseverance and failure cannot coexist. Failure happens when you quit. When all is said and done, perseverance, commonly referred to as "stick-to-itiveness," is the ultimate success insurance. Nothing can take its place.
Adversities are often given a negative connotation and view, as most consider them to be hurdles which impede progress. Nevertheless when taken in and accepted under a positive light, adversities can serve as stepping stones through which an individual can better their character. In the face of looming obstacles individuals who persevere come out of the situation as stronger, determined, and more hopeful for the future.
Adversity can be defined as a state or instance of serious or continued difficulty or misfortune. Many things in life can bring one adversity, however some are faced with more adversity in their lives than others. Overcoming this adversity can be one of the most difficult things that a person encounters, and at times, it may consume them. People attempt to persevere through adversity in many different ways. One of the most effective ways is to keep pushing through and to never give up. If one loses sight of what is driving them to persevere through adversity, it will swallow them up with no remorse. Staying mentally tough and focused on an end goal is how people not only persevere, but thrive through adversity.
When I was 7 years, I moved from my home in Australia to the other side of the planet to Dallas Texas. When I heard that I was moving, I felt a wave of despair wipe over me. As Taylor says “I have never in my own memory been outside of Kentucky” (Kingsolver 12). This was the same for me since I had never been
Adversity can wreck your life. Adversity can lay you so low that you never recover. But if you stand up to adversity, it can also make you stronger, wiser, and more compassionate. No matter what your background, no matter what your family life is like, and no matter what obstacles are thrown your way, if you have someone who loves you and looks out for you and if you have a
Adversity enhances ones’ positive characteristics due to the provision of an ideal environment for establishing integrity and developing a mature mindset. This conclusion is valid because people tend to learn from their mistakes, thus gain a broader perspective on life.
When faced with adversity everyone acts differently. Adversity can make you stronger and it can tear you down. Persevere or to run away. Adversity brings out the best character in people.
Resilience and hardiness has long been a topic of research and discussion within different paradigms and fields of study, for example, in military psychology, psychiatry, health statistics and measurement, medical anthropology, education, medicine and organizational settings. Resilience means the skills, abilities, acquaintance, and insight that accumulate over time as people struggle to conquer adversity and meet challenges. It is an ongoing and developing fund of energy and skill that can be used in current struggles (Saleebey, 1996; Liebenberg, 2005).Most commonly, the term resilience has come to mean an individual's ability to overcome adversity and continue his or her normal development.
Resilience is the ability to fight against obstacles and overcoming them. There are several characteristics that align with resilience. Important characteristics may include intelligence, determination, leadership, strength, and optimism. In all, a person that is resilient portrays different characteristics of resilience which makes them unique. People are distinguished as resilient by the actions that are taken when adversities occur, especially when the outcomes appear bleak. Barbara Jordan demonstrated resilience by advocating justice while using characteristics of resilience which also paved the way for all African-American women.
In all parts of life there are periods of adversity that we must face, the real challenge however, is what and how we gain from conquering those trials. There have been many times that I have been faced with adversity, it has happened in all aspects of my life at one time or another. Whether it is dealing with the ups and downs of hockey or balancing the pressure that comes with an elite hockey schedule and high school, there are always obstacles. Some of these challenges can bring about positive effects that influence the path of one’s life. In one such experience of mine, the amount of adversity was not near as great as the positive out come that came from my experience.
That was both a good and bad thing, it was good because no one who wasn’t from here really wouldn’t come by around here, everyone you saw you most likely saw before or knew. It was bad however because it was inconvenient to get to other parts of the city, you would need to walk twenty min just to get to the D train. These were all things that I was used to and was really life as I knew it, and I’d feel like I’d miss it once we moved, as at the time, I really did not like the idea and wanted to stay, as I loved everything about my life there. I was at that age as a kid when you’re not too young to really know what’s going on, but not old enough yet to understand why or what’s gonna be happening. On the good side, if there was a right age to move at, I’d feel like it would be around the age I was at, around 10. I would be starting my first year of middle school after I moved, so it wasn’t like I was halfway through a school year somewhere and had to transfer mid year. However none of this was too bad, as it wasn’t like we were moving to Kansas or Iowa or someplace drastically different, we were just moving down to Philadelphia, which was definitely a change, but nothing
As a child my parents worried about my educational development. They didn’t know if I was going to be able to keep up with the other children. I was in the third grade and didn’t know any English. I struggled academically my remaining elementary years to catch up to the other children, but it wasn’t long until I exceeded my peers in middle school.
In life, we face negative experiences that can either make or break us. In the film “Rudy” we see that Rudy did not let the negative times in his left break him, he kept trying and was resilient. He established a goal of going to Notre Dame and did not let the obstacles get in the way. Even though he failed into getting into Notre Dame, he kept trying until he finally got in. In life one negative experience I had was when my brother told us he was moving to Ohio to be with his girlfriend. I had to find resilience through embracing change, creating a strong social network and being optimistic. Like Rudy I had to overcome obstacles and I did so by building resilience.
This is an essay where I thematically connect four films, Saving General Yang, No Escape, The Hobbit and Warcraft all together using different film aspects like the characters and their similar situations. This is more for audiences more interested in action/war movies as they are all focused on this genre, in particular my peers and English teacher.
Resilience; the word may seem foreign but it actually shines in some of the most difficult times. Resilience strikes courage into the heart of the most anxious person, and it makes the most difficult task turn into the easiest. Now, the question may be asked: if a difficult task, that seems impossible to overcome is presented, why might it seem so hard to be resilient? Well, although it may seem that resilience depends on the difficulty of the adversity, it depends on the strength of the person affected by the adversity and it’s their own choice they make whether they overcome it or not. In the articles How People Learn To Become Resilient, The Deafening Silence, 15 Common Defense Mechanisms, and Jericho, the contrast is show that while people
