What is the value that consumers seek and that Pepcid AC can offer to them?
The OTC (over the counter) market has been expanding rapidly as consumers have become more inclined to diagnose and self-treat themselves in recent years. If consumers do not think that they are having a serious digestive problem, they tend to rely on taking OTC antacids to relieve symptoms as they occurred. The antacids provide a quick relief to consumers by neutralizing acid in the stomach. According to the studies consumers mostly associate these symptoms with overeating, overdrinking, eating the wrong foods, and stress. Also they seem to be satisfied with current products. On the other hand, over the past several years physicians have increasingly prescribed the H2-receptor antagonists to patients who have symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux disease and heartburn.
Here are some critical findings that JJM found about consumers through market analysis studies they did:
• There is an important behavioral difference between antacid users and prescription drug users: Antacid users buy the products to treat their stomach upset when they start feeling the related symptoms, whereas prescription users seek for products that can prevent the related symptoms before they arise. In a way they are more interested in long-term solutions.
• Advices of physicians and pharmacists are very important for consumers lacking knowledge of drugs for heart relief and upset stomach, when it comes to choose a product and brand.
• Consumers tend to continue to buy their medicines from the same place where they first obtained the product.
With the rise of OTC drug business in recent years, JJM accelerated its R&D activities to come up with a new upset stomach and heart relief medi...

Apple partnered up with Cingular in the US market and sold the product through the Cingular outlets and Apple stores. Finding the right distribution partner and making agreements with them is a long and important process and this directly affects product success. Some of the other important factors are your partner’s image, customer base, advertising efficiency etc... On the other hand, JJM has wider options for the Pepcid AC’s distribution, since it is not a prescribed medicine and thus can be sold through various channels such as pharmacies, supermarkets and discount stores. http://www.tuaw.com/2007/01/10/will-the-iphone-cannibalize-ipod-sales-or-vice-versa/ http://appleinsider.com/articles/09/07/22/iphone_ipod_touch_cannibalizing_traditional_ipod_market
Multiple studies have demonstrated the prophylactic effect of rectal declophenate (5-9) and rectal indomethacin (10, 11) or combined diclophenate and indomethacin (12), but no studies have evaluated the prophylactic effect of oral NSAIDs. On the other hand, Almeida et al demonstrated data on the ...
There are three types of treatments to peptic ulcers antacids, antihistamine, and proton pump inhibitors (PPI). The most important and most effective remedy is the PPI, which is the strongest type of medicine out of the three types. PPIs work by inhibiting the release of protons (hydrogen ions) from the parietal cells (the source of acid secretion) to the lumen of the stomach1. There are many several types of PPI for the purpose of this research we will examine the efficacy of only two Omeprazole and
Why do consumers purchase specific drugs for various ailments, sicknesses or diseases they might have? Why do physicians prescribe certain drugs over competitive drugs that may be available to the public? Why is it that most of us can easily name specific drugs that fit the many ailments of today’s society? On the surface the answer might be as simple as good TV advertising or radio commercials or even internet adds. The truth of matter is the major pharmaceutical manufacturers own the patents on these drugs and this gives them all of the marketing budget and muscle they need to promote the drug and control the pricing. The incentives for larger pharmaceutical companies are very enticing and as a result, they don’t mind spending the time in clinical trials and patent courts to get their drugs approved. Some will even get patents on the process by which the drug is manufactured, ensuring that no competitor can steal the drug or the process. This protects their large financial investment and nearly guarantees a large return for their investors. Many consumer rights groups claim this is nothing more than legalizing monopolies for the biggest manufacturers.

Some indigestion and heartburn medications can suppress the production of stomach acid, which is needed to absorb vitamin B12.
The geriatric population is rapidly growing as individuals continue to benefit from medical advances and pharmaceutical treatments. A large number of this population will need to take some form of medication to maintain a functional lifestyle. Multiple medications can affect the elderly population differently than younger generations. This paper will discuss how polypharmacy impacts geriatrics and the will focus specifically on analgesics and antihistamines. It will also examine demographic factors, changes within the aging body, prescription and nonprescriptive medications, and the role of the nurse practitioner when caring for these patients.
We live in a world where being medicated has become a societal norm. Modern health care practices have set the stage for the proliferation of direct-to-consumer advertising (DTCA) of prescription drugs by pharmaceutical manufacturers. Some of these practices include the emergence of managed care organizations (MCOs), the legalization of DTCA of prescription drugs, the emergence of the Internet as an alternative promotional channel, the increased desire by patients to become more involved in their own health care decisions, the disillusionment with traditional medicine, and the rise of ‘alternative’ medicine, to name a few. There is an ongoing debate as to the ultimate harm or benefit of this relatively recent practice of pharmaceutical manufacturers to direct their promotional efforts away from the physician and towards the consumer.
According to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), 158 billion dollars was saved by Americans in 2010 simply by purchasing FDA-approved generic drugs instead of brand-name drugs. At that time, generic drugs cost on average 80-85% less than the brand-name medication with eight out ten prescriptions being filled with generic drugs. The reason generic drugs are less expensive than their brand-name counterpart is because the FDA does not require the manufacturers to repeat clinical trials for safety and efficacy and these drugs are typically not advertised, marketed, or promoted (Food and Drug Administration, 2013).
The United States spends more per capita on health care than any other country, with the percentage of gross domestic product dedicated to health care doubling from 9% in 1980 to 18% in 2011(Kesselheim,). One of the contributors to health care inflation is prescription drugs. Pharmaceuticals account for about 10% of total health care costs, spending on pharmaceuticals is poised to swell in upcoming years as a result of the increasing prices of complex specialty medicines (Kesselheim). Name brand drugs are going to have to be set at higher prices, in order for pharmaceutical companies to receive a profit. If the patient has full coverage on a medication, there is a greater chance that medication will be taken, although it may not be

Pharmacy is a booming field when it comes to medicine, but it certainly has controversial issues such as compounding drugs. While the practice of making drugs customized to a patient seems ethical, there are problems that come along with it. Drug compounding was the norm in the past, but over time consumers began to see issues with it. Drug compounding still occurs to this day because some patients do need medicine specifically tailored to their needs. Compounding has also been the focus of recent disasters, some of which occurred less than two years ago. Whatever side one may take on this issue, it is clear that compounding medicine will be a polarizing issue for years to come.

I am interested in this project because millions of people are affected by acid reflux at least once a month (WebMD), and would find it useful to know both how acid reflux works, and the best antacids to relieve the pain of acid reflux.
The talk about prescription painkillers prescribed by doctors are starting to be widely debated whether they’re doing more good than harm. The debate on whether painkillers are good for the human health has came into a mild and somewhat highly discussed topic within the last decade. At first prescribed painkillers were thought to be good, but these prescribed painkillers have always been like a double edge sword usually doing better than bad. The side effects from the painkillers used to be very minimal; for example the common side effects were drowsiness, nausea and vomiting, but since the world is a constantly developing place new painkillers are constantly being developed and so are their side effects” ("Types of Pain Medications on RxList.com." RxList. N.p., n.d. Web. 2 May 2014.’). Not only are the side effects becoming worst, but people are becoming severely addicted to them and in some cases their addiction is lethal and not only kills them, but it can also tear a family apart or put a family in great financial debt because of one person addiction. Now when something that been created to do good starts to be questioned whether it’s actually still good or not is major problem majority of the time.
