Overconfident and the highly critical thinker By Staci McGilvery Confidence is an ordeal of how one may view a point or even diverse there opinion in a belief or character. Confidence is a good thing to have, but having too much confidence can alter a person’s character overview and judgments of many situations. Being over confident in a certain perspective can sometimes make a person feel as though they don’t have any room for error. Also that they are always right majority of the time, in a certain situation whether it be a discussion or a telling why you should see a specific movie, or any type of situation that stirs up questions and opinions. The overconfident person can lead to little or no thinking when making a decision, because the …show more content…
Highly critical thinkers well understand that their view of a situation is unique, partial and biased, no matter how clear, compelling and objective it seems. They understand that there will always be other perspectives, which may reveal important aspects of the situation. Jumping to conclusions as an over confident person can sometimes leave people to feel vulnerable to the fact he may not be necessarily smarter but more equipped with intelligence and certainty that he is correct. For example, my manager Alejandro is presumed to be an over confident person because he is the go-to person. He swears he is always right with no questions asked; even if you found proof that he was inaccurate about something, he would challenge you and stand firm on his belief that he was still correct without admitting that he wrong. Another situation was when I was working the cash register and he had counted my drawer to start my shift but as we were counting I noticed that there was a counterfeit ten dollar bill in my drawer. I stopped him to tell him that the bill was counterfeit but he responded saying “it’s …show more content…
For example, and ex-boyfriend of mine always boast and bragged about how great he is in everything, and that there isn’t anything that he couldn’t do. Anything you named he swore he could do it and being as though he held on to that belief so strong, his over confidence lead him and I to believe it being true. It caused me to overestimate his abilities that he could do just about anything I name. One thing I can say is that he was good at football and was excellent at math, and would work excessively. Although, basketball, golf, and money management and a few other things I witnessed he was horrible at. His confidence level was so high that no matter what you said he couldn’t do he would tell you he can. In some cases confidence is a good thing to have when you know what you are talking about, however; too much confidence can be a negative
An unfortunate development in the past few years is the social construct that the future generation is steadily becoming more selfish and vain. Likely originating from the countless “selfies,” or pictures of oneself, being taken by teenagers and young adults, adults of the last generation seem to be under the impression that the Millennials in line to take power will have more priorities meant to benefit the individual rather than the population as a whole. Thankfully, they are mistaken. Still, though, it is a problem that the line between self-confidence and narcissism has become so thin that we can no longer be one without the other. General impressions of the words have been passed down through the years, and unfortunately both have become so watered down that they seem basically the same. So what is the difference between confidence and narcissism?
Confidence isn't an easy thing to build when we first start off and that's completely natural. "If you have a penchant for detecting and dwelling on the negative,
Insecurity is a power drill that drills through one’s confidence and destroys their self-esteem. Whether it be looking in the mirror and being unsatisfied with one’s appearance, or having to speak up in a meeting. Insecurities have the ability to control one’s life and emotions. As Vin Diesel always says, “It's insecurity that is always chasing you and standing in the way of your dreams.” As a matter of fact, insecurities can come to one in many ways such as body language, personal habits, and society’s expectations.
In the Webster's online dictionary, self-confidence is defined as confidence in oneself and in one's powers and abilities. A famous quote by Jim Loehr says, "With confidence, you can reach truly amazing heights; Without confidence, even the simplest accomplishments are beyond your grasp." Confidence in yourself does not come without effort. One must believe in themselves, and not let someone change their beliefs. In the novel Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte, Jane shows self-confidence throughout the novel, by possessing a sense of self-worth, dignity, and a trust in God.
Confidence is a crucial when it comes to your own beliefs. Being confident with your knowledge will lead to new ideas that relate to those of your peers. In addition, confidence will take away any doubt or hesitance. Doubt inhibits learning and often limits people with great ideas. I believe one must be willing to delve into any situation with an open mind and the humility to be able to make mistakes.
Confidence – the full trust; belief in the powers, trustworthiness, or reliability of a person or thing. The day I was handed my blue and black Babolat tennis racquet and was forced on the tennis court I knew it was where I belong. Every day I pick up my racquet and walk on the asphalt blue courts, I can’t help but to remember my days of glory- the days that were filled with screeches from my shoes sliding against the concrete.
...confident, they may be perceived as cocky, and if they are not confident enough, they will be completely ignored. These are cases where the virtue of confidence has been turned into a vice that most definitely will not bring happiness.
Insecurity drills a hole into a person’s heart, minimizes their integrity, and accumulates as plaque build up, hindering any kind of future growth. Just as any human being’s growth is stifled by the insecurity within them, the United States as a whole suffers the same from its own tremendous amount of insecurity. This lack of acknowledgement of self-worth causes a ghastly chain reaction; people tend to pursue the wrong ideals, become corrupt, and inevitably lead themselves to their own demise. Insecurity is a route to destruction, and America is speeding down that road to dissolution.
Moreover, self-confidence is something that cannot be taught. It is up to the individual to decide how much belief that they possess inside of themselves. Further, the more people believe in success and in the achievements that they have accomplished in the past, the more they can firmly embrace new challenges in the future. In contrast, “confidence” is opposite to some of people’s negative personalities such as cowardness, timidity, and it can lead them to be afraid to fail, or do not dare to pursue their dreams. Throughout life, “confidence” can be expressed from the smallest action as a student presenting or contributing ideas to the class lessons, or a scientist announcing his inventions, or even a writer publishing his books. The best way to gain self-confidence is to look deep inside of ourselves and believe that we have the ability to overcome all obstacles and challenges we are faced with on a daily bases because our self-esteem is one of the few things that we have control over. Thus, practicing to be more confident is a crucial task people should do every
Critical thinking means accurate thinking in the search of appropriate and dependable knowledge about the world. Another way to describe it is sensible, insightful, responsible, and skillful thinking that is focused on deciding what to believe or do. Critical thinking is not being able to process information well enough to know to stop for red lights or whether you established the right change at the supermarket.
Self-confidence is very important in every area of our life. Self-confidence is a belief in your ability, skill and experience. If we lose self confidence in ourselves, we will not be able to go further in life. Sometimes I have faced some challenges about who I am and the things I do. I believe I was created for a great purpose by God, and I also believe I am an important person. I do not let anybody to treat me as if I am nothing or the way they like. When we do not know who we are, we will be misled by other beliefs or opinions. I believe in myself. I know there is the ability and power in me to become what I want to be. I do not need anybody’s comments or opinions to know who I am. I always remind myself who I am in Christ and the purpose I have made. I always stay away from individuals who put me down and shred my confidence. Similarly, I believe in doing what I believe to be right, even if others mock or criticize me for it. I do not expect people to like the things I do. When you have a confidence, you do not fear being responsible for the decisions you make. Confidence helps to know what to do when mistakes happen and in decision making. Most of the time people do not appreciate the things you do until they see the
Self confidence is how I feel about myself. It also can be described as that it is my general judgment of myself or how much I like myself. The feelings sound good to me when I put myself in challenging tasks. I have high self-confidence because my mind, including all its thoughts and ideas; my eyes, including the images of all they behold; my feelings, whatever they may be: anger, joy, frustration, love disappointment, excitement my voice, loud or soft, and all my actions, whether they be to others or to myself; my mouth, and all the words that come out of it: polite, sweet or rough, correct or incorrect; do not match to anyone here. In the entire world, there are many people who are good and bad in their self confidence, there is no one else exactly like me. There are persons who have some parts like me, but no one adds up exactly like me. Therefore, everything that comes out of me is authentically it is God gifted only to me. I own eve...
Some are raised being built up all the time, and they think they are on top of the world. They will never battle with being scared of what people think, but they will fight their own type of battle. They will have to deal with the word cocky and overconfident being thrown around at them. While others are raised being torn down all the time, and are scared of what everyone thinks. People raised like this will often have some of the most problems with confidence in themselves. They are constantly scared of being judged all the time. Once in a while there are parents who raise their children to be humble and that encourages them to be the happy medium in society. In today’s world, people should strive most for being the person who can say, “I can do it no matter what they think,” but they have to be careful not to say, “I am going to be the best at it no matter who is against me.” Our society we live in today has created many types of confidence. It is the job of the people to help each other become that humble yet confident
Athletes must have self-confidence. It’s all about the positive mindset. Having the thought of not doing well is an automatic lose for the athlete. This happened to me one time, actually many times, but here is one incident that occurred in my life. I was getting ready for my race which was the 100-yard freestyle. I told myself I wasn’t going to do well because I had not trained for it the best I could. Yeah, I did exactly what I thought, I completely bombed that race. I gained almost two seconds. Without the confidence I needed, I allowed my mind to control my body. Marcus Garvey once said, “With confidence, you have won before you
The Merriam-Webster Dictionary definition for certainty is “known or proved to be true”. But can something ever truly be certain? . There is always something that could occur that could derail something from happening. However, there is sometimes a sense of certainty that one has, and this sense, whether true or false, can create a strong feeling of confidence in someone or something. An aspect of certainty that is commonly overlooked is that in certain situations, thinking something is certain can inspire hope in someone. This notion of having confidence can play a unique role on one’s mind and thought process. A feeling of certainty can inspire hope in someone, believing that something is set in stone, and this feeling acts as a driving force in the attitude of that one person. Another important way in which certainty can affect someone is through someone’s decision-making. When something, usually a situation, is seen as “certain”, this feeling can bring about a gargantuan deal of confidence, and confidence is also a very influential force. Confidence often kickstarts someone, lighting a fire beneath them, and driving them to reach their goal or
