Woodco Millwork has grown fast in the past year, making it obvious that clear direction and purpose needs communicated to move the business forward on the right track. It is also clear that to continue the upward trend that the staff needs to be empowered to achieve long-term results. The purpose of this report is to outline a professional foundation that will plan the goals of the company, how they can be implemented and the results it will produce.
Introduction:
“A well designed Professional Foundations is made up of three independent components: mission, vision and values” (UBT). A mission statement is the reason that Woodco is in business, “when a business has a strong mission, it also provides its employees with a purpose beyond just doing the minimum amount and quality of work necessary to collect a pay check.” (UBT). The vision statement is the owner’s long-term dream or goal for the business. “A vision is the result of a well-executed mission” (UBT). The values are the guiding principles that set out the way the company operates in view of reaching the vision. When the three individual components are put together and executed, it creates a very strong blueprint for every aspect and decision that the company makes.

...The mission, vision and values that are printed in this report are a result of team members input. After collaborating with employees at all levels in the organization including senior managers these statements were written including as many points of view as seemed possible. When interviewing staff it was apparent that they felt there was a lack of direction in the company. Many had little or no prior recollection of previous mission, vision and value statement. The team responded positively to generating a strong professional foundation, and is recommending this for immediate implementation.

An article discussing the importance of a mission statement states that a mission statements’ job is to outline the organization’s unique purpose and establish the basis of its values and traits, as well as describe the attitude that is to be expected of those a part of the organization. Furthermore, this philosophical foundation sets the “tone” for physical actions, meaning that the content of the mission statement can determine the behavior of personnel (Hitt & Ireland, 1992).
Nucor achieved its position as one of the largest steel producers in the United States by carefully monitoring costs and paying attention to the needs of its markets. This strategy of providing its customers with a competitive product at competitive prices has brought success and growth to Nucor, in sales, income, and stock price. Recently, however, the control of the organization has been brought into question. The recent announcement of a joint venture between Nucor and U.S. Steel to develop, test, and bring on line a new method for turning iron ore into steel added to the concern over the ability of company management to maintain the entrepreneurial spirit for which the company is famous.
Employment growth in this field will stem from the greater needs for domestic wood products. The continuing need to renovate, repair, and reconstruct both residential and commercial buildings will require more woodworkers. The increase in automated computerized machines should limit the growth of some woodworking jobs. Employment growth is expected to be good for workers who specialize in the production of items used in renovation, such as moldings, shelves, cabinets, stairs and windows sills. Woodworkers who demonstrate leadership, problem-solving skills, advanced math skills and the ability to create custom designs on a computer should have the best job opportunities. There will be some job openings that will result from the need to replace the workers who leave or retire for another

In its broadest sense, a mission statement defines the economic and social roles of an organization and the contributions intended by its existence (Campbell & Alexander, 1997). Most important for purposes of strategic decision making, a good mission statement provides “long-term directional stability without pushing the organization into an unrealistic box” (Campbell & Alexander, 1997, p. 8). In essence, a mission statement defines the confluence of organizational core competencies with the needs of its stakeholders (Ba...
The Mission, Vision and Values of a company play a Fundamental role in Strategy Formulation and Strategic planning. We will discuss throughout this assignment, how developing effective mission, vision and values can help shape, develop and guide a firms Strategic choices. They reflect the firm's fundamental core ideology. At the most basic level a mission statement can describe the firms overall purpose for being. It provides an inside to the present business scope and purpose of the firm that is "who we are, what we do, and why we are here". It explains the firm's very reason for existing. It will generally define the scope of the firm, the ends to which it wants to achieve and the means of doing so (its competitive advantage), which usually encompasses three dimensions, its customers/offering, geographic locations and vertical integration, its concerns for employees and other stakeholders. These should be clearly defined so as to guide management and employees in day to day decision making. Thus as Porter states that any strategic statement must begin with a definition of the ends that this strategy is designed to achieve, "If you don't know where you are going, any road will take you there". The mission, vision statements and values of a company say how the business is Unique. How it set's itself apart from its rivals and thus how it can offer value to its customer base and thus sets the "tone" of the firm. As Michael Porter states it sets the " Strategy that delineates a territory in which a company seeks to be unique" . It should thus be specific enough to distinguish the company and give ...

Woodworking, a form of carpentry, has been around for centuries and overtime developed into a more modern art. Today people will mostly see woodwork in homes in the form of furniture and decorations, or even smaller things such as family heirlooms passed down by generations and simple crafts made by younger generations. The skill of woodworking, however, is not inherited but takes practice and years of experience to fully master. Even experienced woodworkers run into challenges sometimes. The key is to overcome that obstacle and find different ways to create something new from a piece of wood. It is interesting to see and go through the process in which a woodworker goes through
