Chicago, Illinois - the democratic city where current president of the United States, Barack Obama, was put onto the map of America’s future. Earlier this month, while I was walking through the busy streets of downtown Chicago, I heard multiple remarks about our president being spoken. Some negative, but mostly positive. Some citizens believe that Obama is ruining our nation’s future, but in all honesty, there is no other nation that is ready to take over America’s superpower. Personally, I do not have a negative outlook for the future of America, my belief is just the opposite. Throughout history, there have always been naysayers. My question is why people are always looking at the negatives when there are so many positive situations occurring? Take the rise of education for example. There has been a general increase in the amount of students continuing on to higher education. The numbers will show that not only are there more students going for two-year degrees, but the numbers of students enrolling in four-year programs are increasing as well. There are many new and exciting degrees evolving. The choices range from technology majors all the way through various degrees in medical studies. There is a debate as to the Asian and European countries surpassing the U.S. in both math and sciences, but that is not going to affect the outcome of increasing our overall technology. America has always been the world’s melting pot. Immigrants have been coming to America to better their way of life, and with that they bring their strengths. Just because a C.E.O. of a major corporation is not a math major does not mean he cannot advance his business position. If he needs strength in math and science, they will advertise those openings in the ... ... middle of paper ... ...now lives in a state that either has the freedom to marry or honors out-of-state marriages of same-sex couples. Sixteen states allow freedom of same-sex couples to marry, thirty-four to go. To look at the bright side of life, Americans are smarter, healthier, and living longer. Oh sure, there are some people that say America is becoming obese, but the country is aware of that. The population is cutting back on “super sizing” and starting to become healthier. The numbers are in, that enrollment is up at colleges and universities. People are jumping over fences to come to America; not only for the equality, advancements in job opportunities and medical accessibility, but also for the comfort that advancing technologies allow. America has been through a lot as a country, but we are still here, still improving, still being competitive, and still keeping our place on top.

There are currently 16 states, including Washington D.C., which allow same-sex marriage. The very first being Massachusetts in 2003, but the initial concept of marriage was solely intended for opposite-sex marriage dating back nearly 60 years ago. When discussing the controversial topic of gay marriage, one should consider that if there is truly equality in the U.S. then gays should be treated in the same manner as those who are considered straight.

When you think of America, you think of a land of freedom. A beautiful place where all is harmonious, equal, and peaceful. You visualize a world in which love is inevitable; a place of comfort where everyone has the right to marry their beloved ones. This in fact, is not the case with same-sex marriage. Same-sex marriage has been scrutinized throughout the nation, especially in America, for decades. I strongly support the idea that individuals of the same-sex should have the freedom and equality throughout their marriage just like anyone else.
As of August 19th, 2013 as many as fifteen countries such as Argentina, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Denmark, France, Iceland and other countries as well as several subnational jurisdictions, such as parts of Mexico and the United States, allow same-sex marriage. Same sex marriage was one of the biggest controversies known world wide due to religious beliefs, personal beliefs, and parental beliefs. Although many can argue why they disagree with same sex marriage, research and personal experience will show why same sex marriage is approved.
Prohibiting same sex marriage is unconstitutional. "The act discriminates on the basis of the sex by making the ability to marry depend on one's gender" (American Civil Liberties Union, p 12). It also disregards the Faith Full and Credit Clause of the constitution. If a gay or lesbian couple gets married in a state where same sex marriage is legal, but then for some reasons decides to move to another state where same sex marriage is prohibited, it would mean that their union would not be recognized.
Why is it fair for people to get married to the opposite sex anywhere they please, but a couple of the same sex cannot get married in the majority of states?
