Terrorist Organizations strive on the ability to communicate their agendas to their fellow followers, affiliates, supporters, and the world. Leadership within the terrorists’ organizations is essential to an organization 's communication level, recruitment, and influence. The issue with leadership and the organization as a whole is that when times change and so does the leadership and ways of communication. Evolving with the changing times is key for an organization’s survival during the new era. Osama Bin Laden’s ability to communicate and exert his influence was not immune to the changing world. Media has become more prominent and the creation of social media has made it easier for terrorists’ organizations to put forth their agendas. Al-Qaeda was beginning to fail at their strategic ideologies regarding their agendas. “Misreading the situation, Misreading U.S. Weakness, Expanding the war, Alienating the Locals, and Killing Muslims” (American Public University), are among some of the failures Al-Qaeda has begun to face. Osama bin Laden wrote a series of letters titled the “Letters from Abbottabad.” He expressed his resistance with his organization Al-Qaeda because they had begun to deviate from his original strategies. His ability to control his followers was becoming a challenge and his followers were growing tired of his leadership form. The organization took the path of a more aggressive and impatient approach which was completely opposite from what Osama bin Laden wanted and believed was right. Osama wanted an organization that would last forever and continue to grow even after he was dead. It was his legacy and he did a wonderful job creating such an organization. The difference between Osama bin Laden’s leadership before September 11th to his death was a result in changing times and power.
