I chose the career I'm focusing on because going to the dentist or orthodontist and getting my teeth cleaned, whitened, or worked on has always been something I looked forward to. Having straight, white, "perfect" teeth is something that I've always wished to have. As I slowly lost teeth to the time they all grew back in my parents as well as I knew that I was going to need braces. So I personally know how it feels to have teeth so messed up that you are embarrassed to talk or smile because there is always a chance someone will say something about it, and that is why I chose to peruse a career in orthodontistry. Simply because life is to short to cry for anything"(Quarters). Just imagine a teenager is coming in to see the orthodontist, she would like her teeth straightened because people keep bullying her because her teeth are not as "perfect" as theirs are. She does not smile and avoids talking at all costs, she is embarrassed about her smile. Do you want your kid to have to go through something like this? Employment projections show that there is going to be a 16 percent job growth for orthodontics form 2012-2022. The minimum education requirement is a bachelor's degree program that includes courses in biology, physics, chemistry, and English. You will also need to take the Dental Admission Test and apply to dental school. The final stage of your education is completing a post-doctoral specialty program in orthodontics (orthodontist careers). There are no age, gender, or health related requirements at this time.
