State Farm was founded by farmer, George Jacob "G.J." Mecherle in Bloomington, Illinois. Mercherle didn’t think it was fair that families and other farmers that lived in rural communities paid the same auto insurance rates as those that lived in Chicago. He wanted to establish an “honest insurance company that provided rates related to the risk” (State Farm, About Us). In 1922, after the company opened its doors, a new claim was made which established State Farm’s promise “to be there when the unexpected happens” (State Farm, About Us). According to the State Farm website, the company handles nearly 35,000 claims per day.
Leadership is a communication process of a leader and individuals in which the leaders behavior or attitude directs individuals towards any goal effectively. It is widely believed that leadership creates the vital link between organizational effectiveness and people’s performance at an organizational level (Avolio, 1999; McGrath and MacMillan, 2000). The effectiveness of an organization depends upon the leader having an effective leadership style in order to effectively reach the goal of the organization; with it being one of the key driving forces for improving a firm’s performance. Scholars suggest that effective leadership behaviors can facilitate the improvement of performance when organizations face problems (McGrath and MacMillan, 2000). To effectively achieve leadership of individuals and organizational outcomes, four theories can be used; Fiedler’s Contingency Model, Hersey and Blanchard’s Situational Leadership Model, Vroom & Yetton Participative Leadership Model, and House & Dessler Path-Goal Theory.

Therefore, the followers will be highly motivated to perform beyond leaders’ expectations (Howell and Avolio,
The effect of goal setting on employee performance is evident in the studies conducted by Locke and Latham (1990, 2002, 2007). Leaders must develop closer mentorships with employees as they assist in goal setting and goal achievement. This creates a more positive management environment than that of the authoritarian boss. Leaders who lead employees toward challenging, attainable goals will see better performance standards and as well as a higher level of commitment to the organization. This in turn benefits the employees, the leadership, and the

To become a truly effective leader, one must encapsulate the various behaviors related to the aforementioned course learnings in his/her persona and demonstrate such behaviors daily. This course has allowed me to identify four behaviors that all leaders must portray to be effective. The first of which is that a leader must be inspirational. To do so, a leader must set the appropriate vision and direction for the organization and provide a path to achieving defined goals. Additionally, a leader must induce the proper levels of motivation so that each employee has sufficient incentive to work towards the organization’s goals. As discussed in the class, motivation can be accomplished by factors such as rewarding hard work and providing the correct opportunities to employees. While these are motivating in that employees desire to be fairly compensated and to be doing work they deem valuable, inspiration comes more from organizational culture. A leader will be inspirational by setting a tone that appreciates each employee’s contribution, no matter how small in scale it is. Further, employees are inspired when they work collaboratively in a group setting and can capitalize on individual strengths to drive organizational goals.
Group context: Leadership occurs in a group context. It takes place in groups and involves the process of influencing individuals in the group who have a common purpose.

Leadership, without doubt, is a significantly important function of management. It helps to aggrandize efficiency and to fulfil an organization’s goals. Leadership is the ability of a manager to induce the subordinates to work with confidence, determination, courage and zeal. It is also defined as ability to influence a group towards the realization of a goal. Leaders should have the capability of developing future visions, and to drive the organizational members to want to attain the visions. This paper states my points in which I duly believe, justifies the importance of an outstanding leader in any organization.
The mission statement of an organization is the first item than an investor will see when they are researching organizations to invest in. This is typically the initial statement on documents that investors utilize to gauge the success of companies. “The mission statement is a crucial element in the strategic planning of any business organization” (Rajasekar, 2013). The vision statement is typically closely related to the mission statement, but the vision statement tells the employees where they are going and how they will get there. Proper planning is directly related to the mission and vision statements. It is known as the first function in management. While planning is directly related to the mission and vision statements,
Vision and goals go hand in hand to help create a successful organization. As a leader, you cannot create goals without having a vision, and cannot realize the vision without setting goals to get there. An effective leader will need to have both a vision for the future, as well as a clear cut set of goals that will help a company to grow and achieve that vision. A leader needs to be committed to and passionate about their vision, and driven to accomplish their goals in order for their vision to be successfully realized.
As a leader it is important to have a vision and a goal, but it is even more crucial to have followers who trust in your vision and goals. Trust is developed by displaying positive energy and attitude. Having a goal and a vision helps an organization move into the future. Without a goal or a vision an organization is going nowhere. It is bound to fail. The six steps of goal setting are vision, goals, objective, tasks, timeliness, and follow-up. Creating a mental picture of how the organization will look like in the future is the vision. When an organization has a vision, it is looking for change, growth, and improvement for the future. This vision of the future is challenging the present processes at an organization. This challenge is the first step in the process of great leadership. Leadership starts with a vision. Even Thomas Edison had a vision, a theory that gave us the light bulb. When setting goals, it is important to make sure that they are realistic, attainable, improving the organization, and having as many people involved as possible. Goal difficulty, goal spe...
