Opposing Amendment XVIII The eighteenth amendment states that alcoholic beverages in the United States was prohibited. They did this by making production, transport, and sale of alcohol illegal. This amendment basically states that alcohol is illegal. I am against this amendment for a few reason such as manufacturing different, stronger stuff to bend the law. As I was saying above, when the amendment was set, people, especially in the south, started making a stronger drink, to take the regular alcohol’s place. This substance is known as moonshine, and it is a clear liquid that was illegally made and sold in place of alcohol. They started doing this because they felt controlled, and thus they revolted and started bootlegging alcoholic beverages.
January 1920, the opening year of the 18th Amendment that sought banning “the manufacture, sale, or transportation of intoxicating liquors” within the United States and its US territories. Many Americans relate this era with speakeasy, public law breaking, and a public disregard for the establishment of prohibition. The 18th Amendment was the first constitutional amendment that sought to limit the rights of citizens and their rights to drink. This would become an attempt that many would soon come to realize as one of the greatest failures in law enforcement in American History. For if an American wants to drink, those with the American spirit for rebellion will surly offer him one.
The hopes of the prohibitionists were dreams of a healthier and more successful nation. Their dreams were spun from the idea of shutting out the alcohol industry, enforcing large industries and stressing family values. The eighteenth amendment consisted of the end of sales, production, transportation, as for importation and exportation of intoxicating liquors. Their imaginations were large and very hopeful. The prohibitionists felt that alcohol was a poison to their community.
The making of moonshine is a process that has been used since before prohibiton, when there was a federal law against the making, selling, and transporting of alcoholic beverages. The Americans still needed a way to get there fix, so moonshiners were in need. More and more people began to make moonshine to earn some extra cash on the side. From outlaws to small business owners moonshine seemed to run deep in the south. They started in the backwoods of the south and began to make the shine.
From five states arose delegates who would soon propose an idea that would impact the United States greatly. The idea was to hold a meeting in Philadelphia called the Constitutional Convention in 1787 meant to discuss the improvements for the Articles of Confederation and would later be called the United States Constitution. The United States Constitution was greatly influenced by Ancient Rome, the Enlightenment, and Colonial Grievances.
