This paper intends to define operations management and analyze an ethics decision made by operations managers in the workplace or in a known organization.
Production and Operations Management (POM) is about the transformation of production and operational inputs into outputs that, when distributed, meet the needs of customers. The process is often referred to as the Conversion Process. There are several different methods of handling the conversion or production process: Job, Batch, Flow and Group. POM incorporates many tasks that are interdependent, but which can be grouped under five main headings: Product, Plant, Processes, Programmes, and People.
The field obtains its definition and scope from its vision of an organization as a system. The effectiveness of the system is determined by the success with which various subsystems and components interact with each other and with the environment in which the organization operates. At the heart of successful management is the ability to draw upon the resources of many disciplines and integrate relevant principles and background information in order to define and analyze a problem. Once defined, the manager must identify alternative possible solutions, evaluate these in terms of the broader goals and values of the organization, implement the apparently dominant solution, and, finally, assess the actual consequences of the solution for the effectiveness of the organization. The internal investigation was then initiated; we were kept distant from it as far as it relates to results and enforcement activities, but continued working with the original case as well as with others. Some people felt bad about it, because they were acquainted. Others felt that what happened was not just or right. As you can tell, efficiency and effectiveness were placed together in this case where various subsystems interacted within the organization operations.
Operations Management Process is the central arteries within the organization because it produces the planning process for goods and services, which are its reason for existent. Operations management is linked to all organizations as every organization is producing either a product or a service. However, it cannot be said to be the most important function since there are other functional areas and boundaries within an organization. In today's fast changing world, organizations have to have a tendency towards being efficient, effective and innovative to the changing environment to succeed. Operations Management has to use metrics in order for them to accomplish their task and be successful with minimal interruptions within the organization.
The assigned reading for forum 8 discussed operations management. The text provided significant discussion around TPS, Six Sigma, the House of Quality Matrix. Further study included the stages of product development, project management process, and supply chain management. According to Satterlee (2013), operations management considers the acquisition, development, and utilization of resources. Determining the location of manufacturing plants, supply chains, production management, production scheduling, inventory management, and equipment maintenance policies are all decisions that are made by operations management.

Incorporating ethics into everyday decisions in the business world can greatly reduce the scandalous behavior that has as of late has run ramped. Obviously, we have seen the results and consequences of business conducted absent any moral or ethical boundaries. When decisions are made without the consultation of ethics there is no direction from the moral compass and surely consequences will follow. Choices contemplated by managers may often seem difficult, but assessing the options against ethics can assist the manager in making the best decision.

Operations management focuses on carefully managing the processes to reduce and distribute products and services. Related activities include managing purchases, inventory control, quality control, storages, logistics and evaluations. A great deal of focus is on efficiency and effectiveness of processes. Therefore, operations management often includes substantial measurement and analysis of internal processes. Ultimately, the nature of how the operations management is carried out in an organisation depends very much on the nature of products or services in the organisation, for example, retail, manufacturing, wholesale and etcetera.
Operations – To work out the right layout and work flow process in the company. The manpower resource allocation is also critical in the situation on the right balance of resource to handle the production. If possible, adopt a hybrid model to handle the flexibility in the product nature, make both the production line being able to configure standard and customized so to reduce setup and changeover time and cope with the demands.
Ethics is central for any organization in treating employees fairly and helping the organization advance its mission. There is no single best way for dealing with ethical challenges, but it is very important for managers to develop ethical policies and procedures for implementation. To minimize possible unethical decisions by staff members, it is important to incorporate written standards grounded in organizational values in the code of conduct.
Operations management is a dynamic field and presents exciting new issues and challenges for operations managers. For example, Maura Sprenger, human resources director at Techno Inc., a fast growing information technology company, is faced with a very difficult issue between winning a multimillion dollar business contract with Apex Company or run the risk of causing a very knowledgeable and valuable employee to quit.
