You cannot mistake the clones in Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro as inhuman because use they will make you feel foolish. They will make you feel foolish because if you truly take the time and think about these clones you can see that the only thing different about them is the way they were made. They are just as human as the rest of us, maybe even more so. We have test tube babies and other “unnatural” forms of the reproduction humans. The world of Never Let Me Go has turned these clones into cheap organ cattle that they the vast majority can harvest at any time, just to prolong their lives. These clones without knowing have shown us that they are even more deserving to be called humans than the rest of us, evidence of it can be exhibited throughout the entire story. Those that disbelieve that these clones aren’t humans do not either have a conscious definition or have an inaccurate definition of what it is to be human. America viewed slaves as inhuman just the same as these clone bigots that live in the world of Never Let Me Go because if they are seen as inhuman just because they are different then the majority, and so that we can feel alright do things to them we as a whole could never force another human into doing. The normal population is made to think that these clones are nothing but an empty shell so it makes them more comfortable doing what they do to them. It is the same thing as how we treat cattle we try to be ignorant to it so we can save a little money or time cooking although we do know in the back of our minds that something is wrong with it. This can also be seen as when the U.S. had slaves we worked them to the bone, till the brink of death just to try make life easier for the normal population. We also viewed the slaves as not being human so we could push them as hard as they were because we couldn’t do something like that to them if we actually see them as humans. Let’s not repeat the past and treat another group as inhuman just because it makes our life easier. They are one of us despite being cloned, they are humans.
