Recommended: Reagan impact on economy

Jim Rohn once said, “One must never mistake movement for achievement.” While writing this paper this quote came repeatedly to mind it could be because there during the 70s and 80s there were numerous movement but with very few if any achievements.
In 1970s, U.S. President Richard Nixon orders an invasion of Cambodia, widening the war in Vietnam. In protest, millions march across the U.S. University campuses are shut down by student strikes resulting in 4 protesters being killed by National Guard troops. The Pentagon Papers were published detailing the military's secret, negative assessment of the Vietnam War. Yet another scandal plagues the nation when 5 men are caught breaking into the Watergate Complex where the Democratic Party offices …show more content…

In 1976 Jimmy Carter is elected the 39th President. During his presidency Carter pardons Vietnam era draft evaders. In 1980 as a response to the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan, President Carter imposes an embargo on grain shipments to the USSR and boycotts the Moscow Olympics. US presidential elections come around and American moral is at an all time low, high tax rates and high unemployment rate are just the tip of the iceberg. It came as no surprise the Carter lost the reelection the people blamed him for the impending fall of the nation perhaps it was his poor handling of Iran and the American hostages that took that hammered in the final nail in his coffin. Ronald Reagan is elected US 40th president and inherits a broken country. During Reagan’s presidency changes start to arise, an agreement frees the 52 hostages held in Tehran since 1979, history is made when President Reagan nominates Judge Sandra Day O'Connor as the first woman on the Supreme Court. Among his many accomplishment Regan brings an end to the 46 year old Cold War. There is no doubt that Reagan accomplished many great thing during his presidency but he was not

The Vietnam War was a military struggle fought in Vietnam and neighboring countries from 1959-1975 involving the North Vietnamese and NLF (National Liberation Front) versus the United States and the South Vietnamese ("The Vietnam..."). In 1969, newly elected President Richard M. Nixon, aiming to achieve "peace with honor" in Vietnam, began to put his "Vietnamization" policy into place -- removing the number of American military personnel in the country and transferring combat roles to the South Vietnamese ("Speeches..."). But at the same time, Nixon resumed the secret bombing of North Vietnam and launched B-52 bombing raids over Cambodia, intending to wipe out NLF and North Vietnamese base camps along the border.
