One Evil Summer
It’s finally summer and a time to do what you want and have as much fun as you can. Well that’s not the case with Amanda Conklin’s who lives in a cruel and crazy town on a very scary street, Fear Street.
Amanda was going threw a lot of bad tuff times, like when the town accused her of lighting an old mans house on fire, or the time when she was accused of stealing from her school gym. Amanda was also doing fairly bad in school and especially at the end of her school year. Amanda was so frustrated that she told everyone she would soon run away and a few nights that exactly what she did and on that night she was hit by car and the next morning she was sent to a mental hospital nearby her home. She then came out of the mental hospital a month later and went back to school. The bad thing was tat she didn’t know any of the stuff they were studying and there was only one week left of school. She was doing terrible in school and on last day of school she got her report card and it was terrible. When she came home he showed it to her mother and it was recommended that she should go to summer school.
So the summer that Amanda thought would be the greatest summer yet was turned into the worst. Amanda’s family decided to move the family to a nearby beach in Seahaven. In Saehaven Amanda was sent to summer school and hated it. Amanda’s parents aid that they wer going on a 3week trip and already have everything planned. Amanda’s brother and sister were going to be baby sat by who was said to be the town’s best baby sitter, her name was Chrissy Meleings. Chrissy was known as the best baby sitter Amandas sister and brother loved her and so did the rest of the town but Amanda had a feeling there was something wrong with her.
So Amanda started asking around to see if Chrissie was bad or not. It took long but she found out about her reacent babysitttings from her friend heather and found out that Amanda would kill any animals of yours steal toys and it is rumored that she killed some of the kids she babysat. Amanda was going crazy and it was the second week since Christie has been babysitting her sister and brother and Amanda noticed her cat was missing she then searched all around for it.
Although summer and the autumn are right next to each other, the two seasons are completely different. Ray Bradbury uses the seasons, autumn and summer, to characterize different people in Something Wicked This Way Comes. Bradbury uses the literal description of summer and autumn and translates it onto the characters in his novel. “First of all, it was October, a rare month for boys. Not that all months aren’t rare. But there be bad and good, as the pirates say. Take September, a bad month: school begins. Consider August, a good month: school hasn’t begun yet,” (Bradbury, 1) September, an autumn month, is considered bad. Bradbury uses this to describe those in the carnival, those who have a sort of wickedness to them. August, a summer month, is a good month for the boys which is why Bradbury uses summer to describe the good in a person. However, Bradbury also mixes the seasons together to represent those who are not only warm, but they have a sort of wickedness to them. Summer versus autumn is used to demonstrate the different characteristics of people within the novel.

All the novels that I have read in class this year have been absolutely fascinating and remarkable. Each one captivated me in an indescribable way. However, there is a particular novel that stood out to me. It is a novel that is highly enjoyable and I recommend it to anyone looking for a poetic and simple book to read. That novel is One Crazy Summer by the distinguished author of books for children and teens, Rita Williams-Garcia.
There I was in the middle of it. I was in the middle of a miniature yet very powerful fight between Vonetta and Fern. I am usually the person that stops the fighting between them however this time I decided not to. I sat there quietly between the fight and their screaming. This time I was not going to break up the fight. This time Cecile was going to break up this fight motherly. After a very short while of Vonetta and Fern’s fighting she came in angry. She wasn’t just angry she was enraged. “Delphine, why didn’t you stop them!” I stood their paralyzed with no answer trying to leave my throat. “Answer me!” Cecile screeched enraged. Yet again I stood there with no answer. I didn’t know what to do. However, this is what Cecile decided to do. She grabbed Vonetta and Fern and separated them like a mother would do except she did more harshly. Then she glared at me while separating them for a second, shook her head, and I knew at that moment, trouble tornado alley was coming my way like a bulldog.
Amanda's reality check comes from another dreamer, her son, Tom who is totally annoyed by Amanda's nagging and domineering, he thinks that everything will be better if he can just get away. Amanda and her family go on living their fantasy lives.
First, she was an bossy person. Especially when it came to her children, constantly putting them down and making them feel as if they weren’t good enough and couldn't do anything right. Secondly, she would make decisions for her children, allowing them to have little say in their own futures. Finally, she placed a large part of her responsibilities on Tom. Despite any views people may have on determining if a mother is good or bad, it was made clear that Amanda was a little more on the selfish side of things, putting her needs ahead of her children's. Amanda seemed like she cared more for herself than her own children.
Her eyes were heavy, her body weak. As she crawled into the bathroom two feet away, Abby felt her body slowly succumbing to the numbness. All of her pain would be gone in less than 10 minutes, so why would she want to turn back? What about the senior trip Abby had planned with her best friend? What about the chair at the dinner table that would now be vacant? A couple of hours later Abby’s family came home from her little sister’s soccer game. Little did they know what they would find as they approached the top of the stairs. Her little sister, Ali, stood still as she looked down at her feet. There on the cold floor lay her big sister, her role model, and her super hero. Ali was crushed when she saw the pill bottle in her hand and the pale color of her skin. Her mom fell to her knees screaming and crying, wondering where she
