For my movie analysis, I chose to watch Oceans Eleven. This movie had been recommended to me by a friend previously so I decided this assignment would be the perfect opportunity to watch it. The whole plot revolves around a group of men who become a part of a plan to rob the three most profitable casinos in Las Vegas. Initially, it is Danny Ocean who comes up with the idea. When he first meets "Rusty Ryan", there is some primary tension. Ryan casually asks Danny what he does for a living if he doesn't mind him asking. Ocean replies "I do mind you asking" and explains how he just got out of jail. This is an awkward encounter because that was not the response Ryan had been expecting. Later on, Ruben agrees to help them. Eventually, the two men make up a group of guys with various skills, such as an acrobat and a surveillance tape operator. They all go to Las Vegas weeks before the planned robbery in order to prepare. Danny Ocean explains the plan in front of the whole group and provides a visual representation of the vaults they are going to rob. They even go as far as to construct a fake vault to rob for practice. At one point, someone from the group raises their hand and asks if they are able to steal the money, are they just supposed to walk out with getting stopped? Danny Ocean replies yes. This is an example of an ambiguity in the formation phase. Their plan was well thought out, but the fact that it lacked some details caused some problems to arise later on. Some secondary tension occurs when Danny asks Saul, a member of the group, if he's sure he's ready to go through with the robbery and he gets defensive and goes as far as to threaten him.
