Occupational Stress Foreword
Occupation stress is one of the most common forms of stress that every single person experiences in their lives but unlike other types it is like a nail that continues to be nailed in over and over. There are many occupations where stress becomes a major factor in a job and often people like to jump to important jobs like health professions and engineers because of the high pressure situations where lives are often on the line, but another can be just as detrimental to its workers and that is retail. Retail workers have one of the greatest stress related jobs because of numerous changes inside businesses and the constant interactions with customers and even supervisors. Through the sources provided we will examine how retail employment can cause stress for both people in and out of the profession as well I will interview two workers in this field and attempt to dissect their opinions on the stresses of it and then compare and contrast their two views and then afterward put in my thoughts and compare that to the interview statements. Ultimately the stress of having to work retail will be dived into length to prove that it is among one of the most stressful occupations around.

So what is stress? According to one of the first researchers to examine the stress Hans Selye, stress is “the non-specific response of the body to any demand for change. Stress can come in a variety of different forms ranging from moderate stress that challenges individuals to accomplish certain tasks to high levels of constant stress leading to chronic diseases” (Wongvibulsin). Center for Disease Control and prevention describes the stress at work as “the harmful physical and emotional responses that occur when the requirements of the job do not match the capabilities, resources, or needs of the worker”.
The most important word of advice on how to manage a job in retail is to take care of yourself first. In order to succeed at your job, it is vital to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Retail work requires employees to be on their feet for long hours. It is necessary to stay hydrated and wear comfortable shoes during a rigorous shift. It is also essential to always take your breaks, no matter how busy the floor is. Working in retail can be hectic. You are constantly interacting with others. Breaks allow not only time for yourself but also time to unwind from stressful situations.
Even the slowdown in current global economies could not bring retail sector down as retailers keep seeking for opportunities overseas to avoid challenging economic condition, which make this sector becoming more globalised and competitive. As an heir of an industrial components retailer, I also believe there are bountiful opportunities to grow in this emerging industry. But without deeply and truly understanding in every aspect of retailing, one could not survive in the battle. For this reason, I would like to pursue my education further by studying Master in retail management to obtain knowledge in retailing and hopefully become successful in the field.
There are a number of individuals who experience stress relating to their profession. In addition, Murphy and Shoenborn state that to develop an effective stress management program; several steps as indicated in must be applied as outlined in Figure 3

While China becomes more and more universalized, China still contains its own Confucian culture. Since China has a special environment and culture, it causes unique types of stress compare to western culture. Those types of stress are mainly work demand stress and family demand stress. Stress is something that everyone has to deal with in life, whether it is good or bad stress. Stress management techniques are a great way to deal with stress. Some of the stress management techniques that I learned from this course are prioritization, scheduling, and execution. Using these techniques has effectively helped me deal with my own stress. When it comes to dealing with stress I still have many strengths and weaknesses that I will explain. Some stressors I have in my life that I will discuss are psychointrapersonal, social, life events, and daily hassles. Next, I will give my opinion on my post-course survey, and compare and contrast it to my pre-course survey scores. Finally, I will explain my last goals for this stress management course.
