Accounting is the art of recording, summarizing, reporting, and analyzing financial transactions. Many accountants produce and analyze financial reports. A good accountant can develop a system that will capture all of the necessary details to make the business successful, weather it is managerial, projection, analysis, financial reporting and tax reports. She explained to me that, you can work in a variety of different fields and hold a variety of different positions. Accountants aren't attached to one industry. They can work with any type of business. Any type of business needs accounting related tasks performed.
She also mentioned that as an accounting professional they have a great deal of freedom in choosing what kind of career to have. Whether they want to actually work within a company, or be a consultant, is up to you.
She pointed out that accountants often encounter themselves having heavy workloads during the busy season, and that unlike some other professions, accountants are constantly needing to refresh their skills, due to the new laws and standards that are being put into place.
I asked her what kind of person would enjoy her job as an accountant, she replied, people who are self-motivated and enjoy problem-solving. Analytical skills are a must.
