Throughout life, you are obligated to endure many obstacles and obstructions. I had a vast number of hardships and found not all to be triumphant. Life is all about perseverance, motivation, how you handle tough times, and what you do to get passed them. Such hardships can include failure in a task in which great effort was given, the passing of a loved one, even fighting with a very close friend can all have devastating effects on ourselves. The novel Looking for Alaska possesses these elements. A young girl commits suicide. Her friends and loved ones all face endeavors because of her passing. Confused and baffled they face grief while attempting to find the cause of her act. Struggling to find the reason why, they come to a realization
Task/Activity: Instead of taking a spelling test, students in both classes jumped right into PARCC preparation. Students received a packet containing a reading selection from the novel A Woman Who Went to Alaska and multiple choice questions that was included on the 2015 PARCC and released to the public. Students read the packet and answered the questions independently before the class reconvened, discussing the reading and its questions as a group. Following this activity, students worked together in pairs to write down the challenges they faced while completing the packet and identify the skills they still need in order to succeed on the PARCC exam. After this, the class received a packet titled “Ruby Bridges: Girl of Courage,” and were instructed to complete the first task, which including reading and annotating as well as completing four questions about the passage. The rest of the packet would be completed in stages during the following week.
There are many people in today’s society who undergo many horrible experiences and are able to overcome the hard trials that are placed in front of them in order to become successful in life. While some individuals suggest that these individuals will struggle throughout life and others saying that they just need a few words of encouragement in order to progress in life. Regardless of one’s opinion, it is very important to remember that no one person has to go through anything alone and that help and encouragement will always be available for those who seek it.
Everyone will occur obstacles in their lives. The way you end up after facing an obstacle is entirely based on how you faced the obstacle when it first hit you. If you gave up on whatever it was you were trying to do you will forever be unsuccessful in life. If you found a way to get around this obstacle and persevered you will always find ways to do what you want. In Hamlet, The Great Gatsby and my own life there have been many obstacles that have been important to the characters in the texts and to me in my life.
“Good timber does not grow with ease, the stronger wind, the stronger trees. The further sky, the greater length. The more the storm, the more the strength. By sun and cold, by rain and snow, in trees and men good timbers grow.” All of us experience trials, most the time several are simultaneously. Because we are ready to be strengthened, Heavenly Father gives us experiences also called trials, that stimulate growth, understanding, and compassion which polish us for our everlasting benefit. To get from where we are to where He wants us to be requires a lot of stretching, which usually entails discomfort and pain. When enduring through a trial we need to remember, we have trails for a reason. Instead of dwelling on the negatives of what is happening around us, we need to focus on, what we can learn from this or how we can grow and become stronger.
Sometimes it is easier to have emotional avoidance to problems in your life rather than accepting what is there. It is painless to close off a situation that is bothering you than coming in contact with it, providing a temporary relief that avoidance can supply. Steering away from negative emotions can give you short term gain at a price of long term pain. During these times it is necessary to accept the conflicts in which are upsetting you to live an amicable life. Having acceptance can affect positively by bringing peace in your life within yourself and others.
Our personality and thoughts revolve around how an individual is raised in the world. Adversity, difficulties or misfortunes, help the growth of talents and characteristics that would have not bloomed in regular circumstances. Challenging and difficult situations help individuals grow to be smarter, better and stronger people by revealing talents that would have remained dormant otherwise because they can learn from the obstacle and as a result they will be better prepared for future adversities. Adversities and challenges are necessary in life to help us discover who we are and how we can grow from the difficulties in our past.
Although adversity create a disadvantage in most people's lives, it builds character and makes an individual stronger. For instance, William Ellery Channing states, “Difficulties are meant to rouse, not discourage. The human spirit is to grow strong by conflict” (Steen “Struggle”). In other words, mental, social, emotional, racial, religious/spiritual, and family adversity are examples of hardships throughout the literary devices such as The Scarlet Letter, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, Of Mice and Men, and Othello.
Adversity is a prominent part of life and literature, and it is something that everyone has to face at multiple times in their lives at all different magnitudes. However, what they earn from conquering these trials is worth a lot more than what would have to be sacrificed in order to get there. No one gets to their objective without having to make changes to overcome an obstacle, but all the hard work involved in achieving where you want is really what makes it pay off.
In life we all face obstacles. The troubles that we face don’t define us, how we overcome the situation is what makes us the people we are today. Throughout my life I have faced many trials and tribulations that I had to overcome with the help of my mother, ofcourse. I was smooth sailing in life until I started high school.
Hardship is part of everyone's life, people just go through it differently. Hardship is something that causes suffering or deprivation. Some synonyms are adversity, asperity, hardness, difficulty, and rigor. Some near antonyms are advantage, break, and opportunity. Hardship a good thing, but it can also be your enemy if you allow it. The taliban shot Malala Yousafzai in the head for daring to to speak up for girls’ education in pakistan. She is alive and speaking today because she persevered. Temple Grandin was bullied for her autism all her life. People never believed in her, but she made a humane curved cattle chute that 35% of cattle in america are handled in. Hannelore Wolff endured the horrors of 8 labor and concentration camps. She was assaulted and abused. But she survived and wrote a book on how she pushed through all the hardship in the camps. Hannelore, Malala, and Temple have all had to go through hardship to get where they are now.
Hardships can influence a person's life because it can be challenging for that person and they have to overcome them.

Overcoming adversity is imperative. In fact, you can 't have the happiness and success you want unless you have adversity in your life and overcome it. It is essential for progressing into who you want to be. It shows you what you are made of. It teaches you more about yourself, how to approach what you want, and how to maintain the success that you have. Without it, you wouldn 't know how far you could go or how capable you are because you wouldn 't have anything to push you or compare to.
Life is something that requires a considerable amount of physical and mental effort. Some are fortunate enough to have everything prepared for them. Such as some are born into money; some come across good fortune yet most work hard from the start to get some where in the world. It just all depends on how you were brought into this world. For some people, life is full of stress and hardships. That’s how life was for someone very dear to me. He had it difficult from the start. However he chose not to let life get him down. When life gave him lemons, he made lemonade.
Because of what I learned from hitting this “hurdle” in life, I have decided to make the most out of the life I have been given. Overcoming the adversity of losing a loved one has not only challenged me, but has given me a perspective and wisdom that most people are only able to learn through challenges like this one. Life is unpredictable. Like hurdles, life evokes fear, strength, and courage. Life is often like a race, everyone is forced to face their own obstacles, however, like Nelson Mandela once said, “Our greatest glory lies not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall.” Throughout life, everyone is bound to face their own set of hurdles, however, the important part is learning to get up, keep moving, and apply what was learned from the experience to overcoming the next
