The larger serving size of Great Cups of Coffee is perhaps the most apparent gage that will improve appeal for the company’s customers. Receiving extra of a proportionately quality product for a comparable price obviously works as an enticement for customers to prefer Great Cups more than the opposition. Great Cups also provides as an unintended marketing method community bulletin boards and assists with book club gatherings as well as
In our daily activities as humans, we consciously and unconsciously observe what people do around us, how they do it, and sometimes ask why they do what they do. In so doing we gain a better understanding of their ways of life. Anthropologist and sociologist too mention but a few, professions employ the daily observations we engage in as humans in a methodology called participant observation. Dewalt and Dewalt (2002:1) define participant observation as “a method in which a researcher takes part in the daily activities, events, rituals and interactions, of a group of people as one of the means of learning the explicit and tacit aspects of their life routine and culture.” Participant observation can be carried out in roles that reveal or hide the identity of the researcher (i.e. covert or overt roles) in four different capacities namely complete participant, participant as observer, observer as participant, complete observer Bryman (2004). These capacities all have their merits and demerits. However, for the purpose of this essay participant observation would be discussed holistically devoid of the various roles. This is due to limitation on words. This essay discusses the merits and weaknesses of participant observation, arguing that the weaknesses are inherent in the merits and as such the merits outweigh the weaknesses and concludes with ethical discussions on participant observation.
People are eating and communing like in many other restaurants, but within this restaurant I venture to assume that there are social norms in place that are not present within other institutions. Over the course of my ethnography, I plan to talk with customers and the staff of Panera Bread about the demographics they perceive dining at this eating establishment. Each individual I come in contact with will be asked a series of questions yet to be determined; these questions, however, will provide insight on each individual perception of their surroundings. Even though I will be speaking with both customers and staff, I will pay particular attention to the responses of Panera Bread staff because they are individuals that witness the majority of the social dynamics of this restaurant. Bronisław Malinowski utilized this concept of participant observation to observe the inhabitants of the Trobriand Islands, and similar to his ethnography, I would like to immerse myself in the Panera Bread culture for approximately 2 or 3 hours at a time to witness the differing interactions and social values present in this community. The information regarding the workings of this community will hopefully reveal the tangible differences between the Panera Bread location in Topsham in comparison to other Panera Bread locations. Even if the information I compile results
Drinking coffee has been a popular tradition for many years and will always remain a timeless convention. For coffee consumers, that first sip of caffeine in the morning is the highlight of their day, the boost they need to keep going, or the simple pleasure of enjoying a moment of peace. Coffee can be made with several different devices, comes in many different flavors, and can be enjoyed almost anywhere. Despite the various options offered by coffee companies, there is one thing that remains common among users – many are dependent on this addictive brew. Dependency is important for companies when it comes to their product because it produces consistent sales. Keurig Green Mountain not only produces coffee which is already a reliant product

sat there reading a book. Later in the observation, the man’s phone rings and he steps outside to answer it. As he comes back inside to sit down, he apologizes to his wife and continues to work on his laptop.
The observation occurred in the LNC lunchroom during the second lunch of the day. I observed two groups of people in the lunchroom. The first group I observed being a group of all males seated to the right of me. The second group being a group of all females seated in the middle of the cafeteria. The method of observation I used was naturalistic observation. The naturalistic observation experience during the LNC lunch period provided further meaning about or local, national, and global community.
By using observation method, a wide variety of behavior can be recorded. Picking through the garbage on the side of the road can reveal behaviors of fast-food customers, or sitting for only one hour in the university canteen can understand the gender differences in choosing (diet) meal, or even watching the customer’s behavior from deciding which yogurt to be taken off its store shelves in the supermarket can also answer the question: Are the customers be attracted by its appearance or flavor or price or brand or nutrition? The aim of this observation assignment is to evaluate and explain the different types of interactions between individual and groups present, as well as the environment in which these interactions take place. The field observation was conducted at the Vietnamese fast-food restaurant named “We love Banhmi” in Budapest, and the role adopted, was that of observer as a non-participant. Group structures as well as overall activity, patterns of behavior, and the duration and timing of such behaviors and interactions were observed and recorded. Sociological concepts pertaining to age, gender, and appearance were also noted and applied.
As previously mentioned, energy drinks are often times served in a can. This means they are consumed alone with no communication to others. On the other hand, drinking coffee can be highly societal when in a coffeehouse. In the article “Coffee vs. Energy Drinks- The Caffeine Wars”, Edlund explains that this form of caffeine is “cheap, legal, and available absolutely everywhere” (Edlund). Over the last years, the consumption of coffee has increased greatly. Because of this, there is a coffeehouse on practically every corner you turn. If not all, most coffeehouses also contain a drive through making it more efficient for one needing a cup of energy quickly while on the go. Knowing this, caffeine lovers should gravitate towards coffee rather than an energy
Participant observation is a method of collecting information and data about a culture and is carried out by the researcher immersing themselves in the culture they observing. The researcher becomes known in the community, getting to know and understand the culture in a more intimate and detailed way than would be possible from any other approach. This is done by observing and participating in the community’s daily activities. The method is so effective because the researcher is able to directly approach the people in the community in a natural context as opposed to taking the participant out of their environment. The aim of participant observation is to gain an understanding the subject’s life from their perspective, with the purpose of collecting more detailed information about a community’s habits, opinions, relationships and issues.
The questions we were trying answer came down to four key topics. The first was how we were going to expand the productivity of shop. The second was how does I Java and Chai compare to its other competitors? Leading on to the third topic, how does the variety of the products and prices differ from other competitors. The final question we wanted to answer was how convenient is the location of I Java compare to other coffee shops in the area.
The coffee shop I decided to do my observation was the well known Starbucks just a couple blocks away. The reason I chose this coffee shop was because of it 's style inside, it attracted me. For example, one side of the wall has a glass top, and the lower part of the wall, made of wood and painted in a bright red color, which was one thing that attracted me and stood out. Outside of the shop people can actually see through the glass wall and get to see what’s happening inside of the coffeeshop. By the entrance you see these two red ceiling lamps which were shaped in a flower bud and these two tall green plants. Once you were in, on the right of the shop there was a counter with food and things to put in your drinks such as milk, sugar, chocolate, etc and the colors and how the food was displayed and served was appealing to my eyes. Behind that counter there was a long table with different electronic devices plugged into the wall. On the middle of the those there is a fridge just for ice and when I turned to the other side and I noticed a big menu on the wall. Further more into the shop, there was an area filled with tables, chairs, and sofas. The tables were in different shapes, one was round and the others rectangular, also there was four bamboo baskets and I looked around and noticed that the walls in that area were decorated with paintings.
As we go about our daily lives, we may catch ourselves looking at others, unconsciously inferring what it is they are doing, and or may have previously done. For those that are unaware, this is essentially considered ethnography, the analysis of a culture or society, typically based on the observation of a participant(s) resulting in a written account of a people place or institution. (Definition taken from the Glossary of Terms written by Simon Coleman and Bob Simpson). I conducted an ethnography study in which I sat at a nearby Starbucks and watched as people interacted which each other as well as their environment. In this study I found some pretty expected occurrences, I noted behaviors that one may not pay attention to in everyday life. This further drawing me to the understanding that everyday life is much deeper than the surface. Everyone interacts with their surroundings differently.
Whether it’s Folgers, Nescafé, or a latté from the local Starbucks, coffee can always be found nearby. Due to the caffeine content and taste, coffee is a widely chosen beverage for people who need a pick-me-up in the morning or have just added the daily cup into their wake up routine. The average human is normally not that educated in chemical studies with coffee, and most people aren’t aware of many coffee and caffeine related facts.
entrepreneurs have the ability to come up with new ideas in various situations of which one might have never imagined. Entrepreneurs have a curiosity that identifies overlooked niches and they are constantly trying to innovate (Robinson, 2014). They imagine another world and have the ability to communicate that vision effectively to investors, customers and staff.
