Out of the 313.9 million people who live in the U.S., 155 million of those people are either overweight or obese. That is about two-thirds of adults; not including adolescents (Hellmich). People today turn to anything that can get them “slim quick”, but never seem to think about watching caloric intake, eating in moderation, and exercising. Instead, our society wants to be able to not do work and still see results. This is why fad diets are so prevalent in our world today. While very popular in society and promise to show quick results for a healthy lifestyle, fad diets actually contribute to many health problems and become dangerous for the people who use them to lose weight.
Out of the many diets out there, juicing seems to be one of the most popular because of the promise of quick and easy weight loss. Juicing is a good way for people who do not normally eat fruits and vegetables to reintroduce them back into their diet. Also, it is a good alternative for people who do not like to eat fruits and vegetables (Hartel).
By juicing, dieters can use spoiled fruits and vegetables to make juice so that they can save produce and money (Hartel). On the other hand, juicing is thought of as a way to lose weight fast, but is very unsuccessful when used to “cleanse” and replace meals. By using a juicer, much of the fiber and nutrients that are found in pulp and skin of fruits and vegetables are lost. This is where the majority of the vitamins and minerals are found (Hartel). Also, if someone were to use juicing to “cleanse” themselves by putting them in place of meals, that individual would be lacking in essential areas like fiber and protein. While growing up we learn that the best way to stay healthy and look great is through proper dieting and regular exercise. As we get older and feel the pressure of obtaining perfect looks, the sensationalism of fad dieting can seem like a dream come true. With the desire of a tiny waist plaguing America, it can be difficult to decide between healthy dieting an exercise, or extreme fad diets promising fast results. When choosing which method will work best for you can be stressful, it is important to think about what is really best for your body. Each form of dieting has different long term results, can affect your overall health, and can have an effect on the rest of your appearance.
The first step to take prior to beginning a raw food diet is to detoxify your body. A detox is needed for anyone feeling bloated or congested, tired and low in energy, unhealthy and overweight, or foggy and out of sorts. Unfortunately, most Americans fall into at least one or more of these categories. Obesity in America is a very serious problem affecting many Americans currently and is a problem that continues to grow each year. “Over the past 40 years, the prevalence of obesity has more than doubled in the United States” (Wimalawansa). This issue is known to many but believed not be an issue to care much about but this is not true. Obesity in America affects everyone regardless if they are obese or not. In order to resolve the problem, we can slaughter all the adults that are currently obese in America.

Obesity in the United States continues growing alarmingly. Approximately 66 % of adults and 33 % of children and teenagers in the US are overweight. Obesity is the result of fat accumulated over time due to the lack of a balanced diet and exercise. An adult with a BMI (body mass index) higher than thirty percent is considered obese (Whitney & Rolfes, 2011, pg. 271).
