“Sorry, I don’t eat any fast food, I believe in eating healthy organic foods for a better lifestyle” Kegan Allen (1989-present). People tend to believe our obesity epidemic is due to our high calorie fast food restaurants. They are quick to blame others for their own mistakes and their will to change. According to the collegian article “Obesity is America: Consumers, not companies, to blame” companies require to publish ingredients and any additional ingredients used in the preparation of their products. It’s the consumer’s responsibility to use that information wisely to purchase it or not. They believe it’s not consumers fault for purchasing these products but the big corporate whose advertisement and easy access to get to fast food restaurant than preparing your meal at home. In David Zinczenk article “Don’t Blame the Eater” he describes how easy it was for him to put on weight because he would always be eating at fast food places. Growing up he remembers there was nothing healthy for people to eat easily and that was also cost effect. He argues that, while fast food restaurants, which are cheap and plentiful but are unhealthy for people, there’s no other option that is healthier and cheaper than a convenient fast food restaurant. Zinczenk reports, “Drive down any thoroughfare in America, and I guarantee you’ll see one of our country’s more than 13,000 McDonald’s restaurants (392). Yes fast food restaurants are very accessible, but mini marts are also very accessible. That doesn’t mean we need to buy alcohol or tobacco three times a day just because they are accessible. Just because you find a fast food restaurant at every corner does not mean you need to purchase a super-size double cheeseburger combo instead of a salad.
