The surveys are done by the National Health and Nutrition Examination Surveys, and the deaths caused by obesity are calculated by the International Classification of Disease, Ninth and Tenth Revision. (Borrell, and Samuel, 2014, p. 512) Eating too much junk food without increasing daily exercise will cause the average person to gain weight. Continuous weight gain will result in obesity and possible cause a person to get cardiovascular disease (CVD), which could result in death. The data collected from death rates and surveys of BMI show that, “Compared with normal-weight adults, obese adults had at least 20% significantly higher rate of dying of all-cause or CVD” (Borrell, and Samuel, 2014, p.512). The connection between these death rates and obesity are significant, this can end a person’s life; is unhealthy eating really worth dying for?
Raising the age would not be the perfect solution to keeping all young adults away from cigarettes, but it could keep generations from throwing their lives away. Most smokers try their first cigarette at age 11. When an 11 year-old tries one cigarette it seems like not much of a big deal, not good but one isn’t the end of the world. You would think they hate it and would never go back but in every cigarette there is enough nicotine to get someone addicted. A person will inhale 1 to 2 milligrams of nicotine from each cigarette which is just enough to start an addiction.
Access to gyms, community centers or safe playgrounds can also have an effect on obesity. If there aren’t the resources people need to stay in shape it is harder to have to motivation to want to be in shape. According to the book Overweight America in 2002 roughly nine million children are obese because their diet consisted processed and packaged foods that are loaded with sugar and fats. Also accordi... ... middle of paper ... ...he started losing weight no one made fun of her, but that’s when the physiological effects came in and she had no self-esteem and was depressed about her weight. Obesity is condition of being grossly fat or overweight.
By being physically fit, it helps maintain a healthy weight, build strong bones, and prevent health problems. To conclude this discussion, Obesity is a standing and rising problem in the United States. If more people exercise regularly and practice a healthy diet, the population of obese people will decline. Obesity can cause several health and emotional issues and is the second cause of death in America. Since statistics show that one in three adults are obese, and one in five children are obese, there is a need for healthier meals and more exercise to stop the rise of this condition.
The American Medical Association has said “Recognizing obesity as a disease will help change the way the medical community tackles this complex issue that affects approximately one in three Americans,” (Harris, 2013). But instead you can make the person make healthier decisions not to eat something that may lead to gain weight like foods that have a lot of calories in them. Obesity is the fastest growing epidemic in America today and the only way we can prevent it is by creating more medicine to treat it and encouraging healthy lifestyles. Why is obesity a growing problem? Lack of exercise is one the main cause for being overweight and obesity.
Obesity will never be resolved one hundred percent, but it’s the little impacts that concerned citizens bring to people’s attention that make the difference. One step in the right directions is better than not taking a step at all. Along with the many health issues associated with childhood obesity, there are three major effects that seem to stand out more around the world; the food we subject our bodies to, setting a pattern for the next generation(s), and it contributes to a child not reaching his or her full potential in life. Some people fail to see the true impact childhood obesity can have on a child's life. Children tending to overeat; they don’t understand that something that tastes so yummy could actually be bad for them.
Unless the rate of childhood obesity decreases, today’s children in the United States may be the first generation to die at younger ages than their parents (Devi, 2008). What causes these alarming rates of obesity and obsessiveness with food? To halt this epidemic we need to understand the factors that contribute to it. Many would argue that it’s just in their genes and they can’t help it. Even though there are people who are genetically predisposed to have a high proportion level of body fat, that attitude of not having a choice is false.
The source also, describes how Americans through increased food portions, confusing dieting, the lack of physical inactivity, have all played a major role in the epidemic obesity in Americans. The source concludes with ways to prevent obesity on a small scale through exercising, lowering calorie intake, eating smaller food portions, and asking for a medical professional’s opinion. The purpose of this source is to inform the audience of the epidemic issue that obesity is a real serious problem in America and that serious cardiovascular issues could lead to death. The source is not very useful, for reasons that the author of this post does not have the professional qualifications to know that all the information that was posted is accurate or reliable. Even though, the post was written recently, it was opinionated and biased to only certain forms of ways to deal with the subject matter.
According to the national center for health statistics obesity is defined “as an individual’s weight being 30% or more above what is considered normal by the standard accepted weight and body height.” The term “normal” varies in terms of each individual’s height, age, and gender. Obesity is a serious health con... ... middle of paper ... ... problems. It has been proven that children who struggle with being overweight or obese will continue to have these problems throughout their adult lives, and consequently, will deal with the aforementioned related health issues (CDC.gov). These problems can be avoided with a few simple steps. Clearly childhood obesity is a growing problem, percentages of overweight children are on the rise and these same children will struggle with weight problems as adults.
Obesity is a leading preventable cause of death. Even though its avoidable millions of children and adults are still dying from it. Documentation of obesity didn’t start to surface until the early 1600’s. Many americans have been affected by obesity , which is a health condition that has been characterized by health officials as an epidemic (obesity rates in the U.S) Obesity is a highly contentious issue that is caused by excess body fat that has assembled to the area that it may have a negative effect on health. The government can also stop the world from being obese by closing all fast food restaurants.
