Smoking will soon lose its number one rank for preventable cause of death. According to the Journal of American Medical Association by next year obesity could become the number one leading cause of preventable deaths. The federal government regulates tobacco sales to minors and would arrest the parents if they had given the tobacco to their child, childhood obesity offenders should have similar a punishments with child endangerment. There are two main factors which add to childhood obesity: unhealthy eating habits and lack of exercise. The health problems which add to the obesity risk can easily be avoided.
Obesity can be measured by the Body Mass Index (BMI), this can be calculated by weight (kilograms), divided by height (meters) squared, or weight (pounds), divided by height (inches), times 703. BMI interpretation for obese adults is 30.0-39.9. BMI interpretation for children ages 2-20 is being in the 85th-95th percentile. Diabetes, heart disease, and cancer are fatal obesity related health problems can be prevented. While a lack of concern for overall health, laziness is adding to the growing problem of overweight and obesity in children, which is leading the growing numbers of the diabetes diagnosis.
With the growing breakthroughs in the medical field there should be no reasons not to take advantage of these advances. There is a lack of concern for health either because of financial reasons or the concern is not an enough.
