Doctors have little to no training on how to properly care for obese patients. They also lack the proper equipment to treat these patients. Most obese patients often undergo humanly degrading task to be able to check their health. For example, Sarah Bramblette was told by her doctor to lose weight just one problem, how much did Ms. Bramblette weigh? In order to find out, Ms. Bramblette had to go to a junkyard to have access to a scale that could weigh her. She had no other choice because the one in her doctor’s office only went up to 350 pounds. This problem isn’t exclusive to just scales but with CT and MRI scans. Scan machines that can handle extraneous amount of weight are not as easily accessible as they should

Burnette, information is gathered through various studies to gain results towards obesity being a disease and the different outcomes. By showing the different opinions people make towards this question helps to gather more relevant information needed to solve the issue. According to the United States Census Bureau, the U.S. Population is over 300 million ("U.S. and World Population Clock"). With this increase in populous, there has been a significant increase in the number of obese individuals– with over 36% of adults in the U.S. effected (“Adult Obesity Facts”). Even though there are so many people effected by such a problem, the root cause of the problem remains buried and solutions to said issue are unnecessarily complex. Statement of Problem
During my community clinical rotation, i observed how the community plays major role in obesity, the community had a lot of fast food restaurant. Columbia Height community is very diverse; the community is composed of different nationality but mostly African American and Hispanics. Culture and lifestyle can play a role in obesity, in addition obesity affect minorities. Cook et al (2012) states “researchers have found higher obesity rates among Latino children and adolescents compared to their non-Latino White counterparts”

Description of Obesity and It’s Effects on People
Obesity is when excess body fat is accumulated to the point where you are at a higher risk of getting other diseases. The main causes of obesity are overeating, irregular meals, lack of physical activity or genetics.
Being overweight has become an issue in society today. Often associate overweight people with the word fat, which is demeaning to overweight people. Obese people are now facing the same prejudices what comes from being different in this so-called prefect society. According to Dictionary.com “obese” comes from the word obesus which is past participle of obedere to eat away (“Obese”). There are at least five major theories on what causing childhood obesity epidemic: “1) genetics (the “thrifty gene “) 2) the “weight set point,” 3) low metabolism, 4) the food-rich environment, and 5) sedentary lifestyle” (Pretlow 2). In society, people have a busy schedule, and do not have time to plan meals. Not planning meals leads people to make poor food choices. One of the major contributing factors is the fast food industry. Often people stop at fast food establishments, because of convince, and low food prices. This might be associated to overweight. Being overweight is succumbing to obesity. According to the cdc.gov obesity is determined by using a ratio of height to weight. In general, a healthy weight for people height, determines the risk ones may have to certain diseases. Body Mass Index ( BMI) is the name of the ratio that give people a way to determine healthy weight. (“Defining Overweight and Obesity.")
Imagine that you are sitting in a restaurant and you just ordered a Caesar salad and Clam Chowder soup combo when a huge man walks in and the kid sitting with his mom two booths behind you says, “Look mommy! There’s a really big monster.” When you turn around to look, you think, “Yeah, he’s obese.” Well, what is obesity? Obesity means the condition of being grossly fat or overweight. What causes obesity, how do you prevent it, and how do you cure yourself if you wake up one morning and you finally realize, you are obese.
