Many Americans have many questions about the new Affordable Care Act, also known as ObamaCare. Most people don’t even know what ObamaCare is or what it does. That is expected. With health reforms that cover almost every topic about health insurance, it is almost impossible for somebody to know everything about it. Americans should be informed about this subject that affects almost the whole health insurance system. The United States has changed under Obama’s presidency. He has changed many things about the United States, including the healthcare system. Many people ask themselves if this is for better or for worse. The idea of ObamaCare is decades old. The first idea came from the Heritage Foundation in 1989. Most people believe ObamaCare is a liberal idea, although it includes both conservative and liberal ideas. The only reason it is called “ObamaCare” is because president Obama signed it into effect. ObamaCare was signed into a law for reform on March 23, 2010. It was then signed by the Supreme Court on June 28, 2012. ObamaCare is “...over a thousand pages of reforms to the insurance and healthcare industries in order to combat rising costs and to provide affordable health insurance to more Americans.” There were about forty-four million (sixteen percent of the population) Americans without insurance before ObamaCare came into effect. These people couldn’t afford health insurance. ObamaCare now provides the low cost insurance to people making less that four hundred percent less than the Federal Poverty Line (ObamaCare) which is $10,830 for one person and $22,050 for a family of four (Dummies).
