Nurture vs Nature In the movie Namesake, a character named Gogol is born in America and is given two names. The first being Gogol, his pet name and secondly Nikhil, his good name. In the beginning, he is grows up being called his pet name until his family can decide on what his good name can be. He then enters school and decides to always be called Gogol because that is the way he grew up, and it is the name he knows. He is torn between his Bengali roots and American future, so he switches to the name Nikhil when he head off to Yale. This name is less foreign to everyone and is the name everyone calls him, with the only exception to his close family.
