Equality and fairness is very important to me as well as finding value or worth in others. By this, I mean to look at people as part of a team. Every person brings something unique to the table because everyone’s life and experiences are different, but not necessarily wrong or right. Each individual has a different aspect when looking at a situation. I also place importance at looking at issues from multiple aspects and try to do this as much as possible. I do like to have one clearly defined path but if that is not possible then I believe multiple paths can lead to the same predetermined goal. It will allow me to gain more knowledge and understand different viewpoints about the nursing profession. This will also enhance my leadership skills and allow me to become more proficient in conflict resolution. I want to become an active participant in creating change in the nursing profession that results in improvements in healthcare. Developing these aspects will ensure employability and open the door to being a case manager or unit manager at the very least. My long-term goal is that completion of my BSN will allow me to obtain my MSN and become a Nurse Practitioner. Educational and Professional Goals One of the educational goals I would like to achieve while in the program is to become efficient at writing papers. I would also like to be able to identify when I write in passive voice and to do so without having to spend a lot of time reviewing my work. This will involve asking questions of other nurses on my unit who are certified. I will more than likely do a majority of studying for the test itself when I am on a break from ODU in winter, spring, or summer. My second goal of working in the ICU will happen once I possess good time management skills as a nurse and obtain specialty certification.
