Reflection
Self-reflection is one of least favorite task for anyone whether it be a leader of an organization or an employee. To become an effective leader one should be self-aware, know the priorities, and always strive to improve. My long-term career goal is to become a nurse leader in a leading health organization. To pursue my career goal, I am enrolled in the MSN Nursing Leadership program at GCU. Working as a charge nurse I have gained some experience in leadership, especially situational leadership. With my experience as a nurse and considering my personal belief and my Christian background I have come up with the following leadership vision. To provide high quality care to all patients irrespective of their background, empower my followers to become leaders themselves, be compassionate and treat everyone with respect. The style of leadership that is appropriate to achieve my vision is Transformational Leadership. Nursing is a profession which requires qualities like integrity, hard work and compassion. When these qualities are molded along with transformational type of leadership will facilitate positive outcome. This style of leadership in health care setting will allow the leader to motivate the followers, promote team work, increase self-esteem which can lead to high productivity. Transformational leadership in nursing can create a healthy environment for followers, which can result in high employee satisfaction, improve staff retention and patient satisfaction. Involving the followers in the decision-making process can create a culture of value, that is to treat every follower as a valued member of the team from the janitor to the doctor.
