Nursing Practice Reflection

In terms of professional nursing practice, I think I am still in the process of developing it. As I said earlier this semester, there are still so much for me to learn both as a student and as a nurse. In Benner's category, I believe that I am in between novice and advanced beginner. Even with one year experience as a nurse extern, I still have questions and doubts during work. I have just recently be put on charge on some nights, when I am the only RN scheduled. I do feel like it is a pressure, but also a learning opportunities too. The good thing is our LPNs are experienced and has work in this floor for years. I am not embarrassed to ask them questions and opinions when I need to.
My current computer skills are above average. I adapt rather quickly in computer and software skills. Things that are new for me this semester are BlackBoard updated features, and tablet's word processing. I love the BlackBoard updated features, and able to navigate well within the websites. It can be true in some cases. For example, with continuous monitoring of heart rhythm with telemetry, nurses often not bother to check to the room every two hours. I have seen that in practice, and still do see some nurses do that. To me, it is not safe to just looking at the monitor and not checking on the patients visually, going in to the room, seeing those non-labor, even chest expansion. Telemetry can give us clue of how patients' heart rhythms are look like, but not telling us that patients' alive. It could be PEA or malfunction device.

I think one way to prevent something bad happen from high-tech, low-touch care is by educating our nurses. Not only educating them how to use high technology in health care, but also educating nurses in using them smart and wisely. Also, I think it will be necessary to enforce nurses staff to give high-touch with high-tech health care. It is again, through education, training, and follow
