Being a Nurse Nurses have immeasurable responsibility in a very demanding, yet rewarding work environment. As a nurse you will laugh and cry, see people at their best and worse, as well as step into others’ lives. For these reasons I believe nursing is the hardest job you will ever love. As I wake up early for clinical I prepare for my shift gathering the needed information to provide the best quality care to my patients, Mrs. Adams and Mr. Moore. I review the information my clinical supervisor has sent to me the night before, most of the information I have seen before as I am a third year nursing student, still every patient is uniquely different. I arrive to the hospital that my placement is at and find my floor nurse for further instruction. …show more content…

After collecting the morning vital signs I prepare the patients 9:00am medications. I return to Mrs. Adams, explaining the pain medications given to her before physical therapy comes in to work on strengthening her knee. I make my way to Mr. Moore’s room; I enter and ask him to state his name and date of birth, any allergies, and his pain level before I administer his medications. I help prepare him for his bath, we slowly work together to help him sit up, to stand and walk to the washroom. Small breaks were taken as he sat to catch his breath to make it across the room. He tells me, “I can’t now, it is too difficult to breath” in a weak, raspy voice. I tell him it is okay and about the excellent progress he is making and that we can try again at a later time. We return back to his bed, and situate the room with dimmed lights for him to rest. I leave the door open slightly to block the nurse’s station noise from his room. As I glance in the room, my heart aches seeing the difficulty Mr. Moore has grasping to each breathe as if it were his last. As I walk down the hall I am greeted by Mrs. Adams and the physical therapists. Her smile radiates the hall with life, although her steps are not the most stable or fast paced. They are the best they have been in a very long time. The sight of her recovery gives me hope and inspiration, as well as love for my field of
