The student nurse interviewed a registered nurse in the trauma department who worked at Holy Redeemer Hospital, and the nurse has been working at the hospital for the past ten years. The interviewee’s definition of nursing is the protection, promotion, and optimization of health and abilities, prevention of illness and injury. She believes that nursing is to help others that are in need for both medical and emotional support. This profession is mainly aimed towards those who are compassionate about healing others. As the nurse explains her daily challenges with patients, she uncovers that a person who wants to pursue nursing has to have a tremendous amount of patience. Patience can help keep the nerves calm for the nurse, if patients are giving In the nursing profession, professionals deal with many aspects of patient care, and she enjoyed the variety of tasks she would accomplish in her daily routine. The interviewee went to college for nursing in India and then continued to study here at Bucks County Community College. She received her associates in nursing then started working at Holy Redeemer Hospital. However, the hospital was told she and to go back to school for her bachelors in nursing because she originally started with an associate in nursing. Due to having four children, the nurse took a break from work and then continued to go back to school for nursing. She later received her bachelors in nursing degree and went back to working at Holy Redeemer Hospital. Growing up, the nurse had to take care of her grandparents and she discovered another side to her, the optimistic nursing side. She has thought about becoming a doctor at certain points in her life; however, as she went to hospitals and saw how nurses really care for the patients, nursing was her number one choice. Overall, the interviewee became a nurse because she was compassionate about making a difference in people’s lives and seeing them live healthier and The interviewee said the three things she values about nursing is the patients, being able to make a difference, and the flexibility. Valuing patients is usually every nurse’s top value because without the patients, they do not have anyone to take care of. The nurse began to explain their job does not only consist on taking care of the patient, but also interacting with them. She began to explain how she has heard extraordinary stories from her patients, or if the nurse was having a bad day, the patients would instantly say something to make her smile. Patients are just humans after all; therefore, the nurse felt as if she had a fun job with interacting with the patients and making a difference. Therefore, making a difference was another value the interviewee has discovered in her profession. As the nurse began her clinicals in nursing school, she remembered one incident that happened that impacted her; she saw a patient die for the first time on the hospital bed. The nurse said it's more than just making sure the patients take their medications or their vitals are up, it is making an impact on their life and seeing that face of satisfaction at the end once all the work that could have been done is completed. Finally, flexibility played a huge role into the interviewee’s value because of the amount she needs to juggle in her life,
