Registered nurses are mostly about giving care to patients and teaching them proper health guidelines to be healthy both physically and mentally. Nurses are caregivers, who take care of patients, give them medicine, feed them, bathe them, & take them to the restroom. Nurses work at various fields. For example, when we think of a nurse, we think of the one who works at the hospital and checks in on patients to see how they are doing and if they are comfortable, but there is more to that. Nurses work at nursing homes, schools, medical offices, armed forces, emergency rooms, and big industrial companies where they build stuff. Then they can transfer out to any university to get their Bachelors degree in nursing. In able to touch patients, nurses need to get their license, they need to take the NCLEX exam. It is a board exam for nurses, every state has its own. If a nurse fails this exam, they have to go back to school and brush up on whatever they did not do so good on. If they do pass, a job is already open for them at any hospital. The career of nursing is growing rapidly, and it is becoming very competitive. AK: How long have you been a nurse?
KT: I have been a nurse for about 33 years.
AK: What colleges or universities did you go to?
KT: Well, I went to Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia in 1981 for my Bachelors, then I went to Messiah College in Harrisburg, PA. Afterwards I went back to Thomas Jefferson for my certificate in nursing, my diploma.
AK: Are you still going to college to become an instructor here at DCCC? or not yet?
KT: That is a very good question. I am actually going to college right now, but taking online classes. I am taking classes with Messiah College so I can get my Master’s in education. I want to able to teach nursing to students here at school.
