Recommended: Advantages of being a nurse essay

“Nurses dispense comfort, compassion and caring without even a prescription”. It is a rewarding and worthwhile profession I have always admired. Third world countries that mainly rely on humanitarian efforts makes me feel empathetic and thus encouraged me to hope that one day, I’ll be able to offer help and guidance to them and apply my nursing knowledge to accomplish this. Knowing that nurses make a difference in people’s lives is a great life achievement.
Studying Health and Social Care in college developed my understanding of practitioners involved in the medical field and their responsibilities. These skills will then support me when I work with adults on a placement. I’ve currently applied for voluntary work for St John Ambulance within Leeds. Gaining an experience about their services will enable me to offer good interpersonal skills and an idea on how to render first aid in real life circumstances. The role description states that knowledge and commitment are essential therefore I hope to contribute these skills into the volunteering work. Recently, I applied for the Sighted Guiding Course run by Guide Dogs for the Blind, which I hope will provide me transferable skills and allow me to extend my understanding of the services they offer for the community. The course involves guiding the blind and thus I hope to exhibit my leadership skills and effort. Attending a Nursing Talk in the University of Leeds to understand the qualifications and skills needed in order to be qualified illustrates my determination and commitment in studying this

    A week before Christmas in 2013, my stepfather suddenly lost consciousness. His body stiffened and he began to violently convulse – he was having a seizure. Later in the hospital, the doctors informed us that my stepdad had suffered a hemorrhagic stroke.
