Masters-prepared nurse interview As a result of the aging nursing workforce and maturing population, the demand for nurses is tremendously increasing. The Human Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) has projected 2.8 million shortage of nurses in 2020. This deficit corresponds to an increase in the demand of nursing faculties. We must encourage our enthusiastic nursing graduates to pursue higher levels of education and advance their nursing practice to teach back and help in molding and guiding new nurses. I interviewed a Nurse Educator to gain insights as an advance practice nurse and acquire a flea in the ear in developing my career as well. She was looking for something else to do and wanted to take another step. She is not getting younger and felt pain in some areas of her body. However, she wasn’t sure which path in the nursing profession she will take. Her peers acknowledge her as very detailed, organized, and hard working individual in the unit. She received numerous commendations from her co-workers and awarded as a nurse of the year. On the other hand, she is always hunger for information and her interest in new research studies and practices in nursing. She is an active member of the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN). She was a preceptor for several years and a nurse mentor in the hospital. Until one day she said, one of the staff that once was her student in the residency nursing program was recognized with excellence award in the hospital when the student started working as a staff in ICU. She felt so much fulfillment and gratification by molding and imparting knowledge and skills with the right attitude towards patient care to the student. She saw value in the time and effort that she invested. The feeling of worthiness to teach and learn at the same time was the sign that she was looking for that landed her in the Masters of Science Nursing (MSN) with an emphasis in Education.It was difficult for her in the beginning. Working full time with family and in graduate school was tough. However, with hard work and dedication on the goals that you set nothing is impossible, she continued.
